006 Thankful for what God has done for us/delivered and transformed us
This section refutes the false teacher that was raising up in the church.
One
One thing that I noticed in most of the false teaching is they try to explain away the sinful nature of man.
I. v. 13
A. Darkness-
1. indicates that there is a kingdom, a realm, a world of darkness.
a. Whose ruler is the devil
2. what does it mean to live in darkness
a. It is living a life without God
1) God is light and if you live your life apart from Him then you are living in the darkness of sin apart from the light.
a) Light will destroy darkness
b) Light and darkness can have nothing to do with each other. We can’t walk in the light of God and still indulge our secret and shameful sins. We must either turn to his light or hide from him. You either live in it or you live outside it.
2) Living a life without God is why peoples lives are so empty and meaningless
3) living a life without God is why peoples lives are so messed up
4) Living a life without God is living a life without hope.
Living a life without God is living a life without hope.
ILL. don’t have to go far to see people who live their lives without God…people on the street, we label them, alcohlics, addicts, God calls them drunkerds. Man alcholism a dease, God calls it sin. Man calls drug abuse an addiction, God calls it the lust of the flesh. They are living their life without God.
ILL. Sucessful people who have it all, fame, and fortune, but one thing they don’t have is a peace in their heart. That is why you hear so often of famous people who commit suicide.

3. we are enslaved by darkness
; ; ; ; ;
a. We are in bondage to darkness,
a. People who live in darkness can’t help those who live in darkness, it is like the blind leading the blind.
1) Man’s wisdom will not lead a person into the Light.
A Man’s wisdom will not lead a person into the Light.
a) It may help them with their physical and sometime mental problems but it won’t bring peace into their life
b) That is why I am not 100% behind programs.
That is why I am not 100% behind programs.
b. God the Father is the only One who can free us from the bondage of darkness.
1) That is why Paul gives thanks
2) The Israelites being freed from the Egypt is a picture of God’s deliverance.
B. God has translated us into the Kingdom of His Son
1. translated…meaning to move one place to another.
a. this word is most commanly used when changing one laguage to another.
2. God has translated us from the kingdom of darkness, ruled by the devil, into the kingdom of light ruled by Jesus Christ.
a. He has translated us from darkness where we were bond and held by force, into light, giving freedom from the power of sin.
II. Thankful for God’s redemption and forgiveness.
A. redemption-has set us free by paying a ransom-His blood
randsom His sufferings upon the cross
ransom His death upon the cross
B. Forgiven us-by His grace
We don’t deserve it
ILL. all knowing God, didn’t He know the Isrealites would be ungrateful and rebellious?
Paul was thankful-11 times in Paul’s writings He uses the phrase giving thanks.
