Does Jesus Really Understand Me (Lesson 4)

Image
Luke 19:1–3 ESV
He entered Jericho and was passing through. And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.
Who wrote the book of Acts?
Who wrote the book of Acts?
Who was he writing to?
Luke 1:1–3 ESV
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
Luke
Compile a narrative (Narrative: a spoken or written account of connected events; a story)
An orderly account
Luke 19:1–3 ESV
He entered Jericho and was passing through. And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.
A man named Zacchaeus
#1 He was a chief tax collector
#2 He was rich
#3 He was seeking to see who Jesus was
Two obstacles was in his way
#1 A great crowd
#2 He was small in stature
A Jesus Encounter
Luke 19:4–5 ESV
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him
He ran on ahead -
Not knowing that the same person he was trying to see, was the same person who planted the sycamore tree.
When Jesus came to the place - He looked up and said to him
Do you remember the place when Jesus spoke to you ( The place of your encounter was an ordained place)
“Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”
Let people talk!!!
Luke 19:6–7 ESV
So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”
Luke 19:
He received him Joyfully - Don’t let anything stop your Joy
And when thy saw it, they all grumbled. - THEY!!!
He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.
Does Jesus really understand me?
Does He really know that I am a sinner?
A Heart Change
Luke 19:8–10 ESV
And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord
Zacchaeus feels comfortable.
He has boldness.
He feels conviction but with no judgement.
“Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”
The half of my goods I give to the poor.
If I have defrauded anyone of anyone of anting, I restore it fourfold.
Jesus never asked him to do any of these things but Zacchaeus had a Heart Change…
Where is your heart?
“Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
When did Salvation come to his house? The moment his heart changed
When did his heart changed? The moment he recieved him with Joy (Joy: to feel happiness or joy)
The son of man came to seek and to save the Lost. - Jesus understands that I was Lost…
Think about the Rich Young Ruler (Lesson 2) Vs. Zacchaeus (Lesson 4)
to rejoice (feeling) v. — to feel happiness or joy.
