Foundation Scripture: Romans 5:1-5
I. Character: What is it?
A. Webster’s: “the pattern of behavior or personality found in an individual or group; moral constitution; moral strength; self-discipline, fortitude, etc.”
B. Character is what you are in the dark.
C. Character is what you are under pressure.
D. Character is what you are under temptation.
E. Character is your real standards at heart.
F. Character is living out what you say you believe.
II. Is it possible to know true character apart from adversity?
A. Why might God allow adversity or tribulation?
B. Romans 5:3-5 “But we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of “God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

1. Leadership is influence. Character builds influence.
2. People will follow who they trust. Character establishes trust.
3. People will follow who they respect. Character builds respect.
4. People buy into a leader before they buy into his vision.
