1 Corinthians 11:28 ESV
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
Sometimes the bible can appear to be confusing
Proverbs 26:3 ESV
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.
Proverbs 26:4 ESV
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.
Proverbs 26:1–5 ESV
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool. Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, a curse that is causeless does not alight. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools. Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
Everyone needs to change
Proverbs 26:5 ESV
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
1 Corinthians 6:2 ESV
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?
Everyone needs to change
Matthew 7:1 ESV
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
Everyone needs to change
How should they change? Who decides?
I need to change
Until I allow the word of God to challenge, convict and change me I won't be able to change those I love.
Matthew 7:1–5 ESV
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

The true spirituality of

The true lifestyle of

Matthew 5:16 ESV
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:17 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Matthew 5:14 ESV
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

The true righteousness of

Matthew 5:20 ESV
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

The true pursuit and promises of

Matthew 6:33 ESV
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

The true problem with change based on

Until I allow the word of God to challenge, convict and change me I won't be able to change those I love.
Until I allow the word of God to challenge, convict and change me I won't be able to change those I love.

(1) People need to change but you can’t change them

Only God can change people from the inside out
1.Through the Spirit -
1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:13–16 ESV
And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
2.Through the word -
1 Corinthians 2:11 ESV
For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV
But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
1 Corinthians 2:7–12 ESV
But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
1 Corinthians 2:10 ESV
these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
1 corinthinians 2:11
1 cor 2:13-17
Psalm 19:6–9 ESV
Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.
Psalm 19:7 ESV
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
2.Through the word
3. Through salvation in Jesus -
John 8:32 ESV
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
4. Through humble saints -
Proverbs 27:6 ESV
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.

(2) Self examination and self-improvement always strengthen relationships

1 Corinthians 11:28 ESV
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
1 Coritnhians 11:28
Matthew 7:
Matthew 7:5 ESV
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:2–5 ESV
2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:2
7:2 We can’t be God - we’ll always fudge the results in our favor (Cutting the cake)
7:3 We are inherently blind to our faults (log in the eye)
7:4 We are hindered from helping others by our own sins, habits, flaws
7:5 We must first do self-examination and self-improvement
7:5 The result is harmony, love, deeper and more meaningful relationships
I change first, I change the bigger thing first, I help others to change, we together are more like Christ.
Logs in my life that need to change
The acts of the sinful nature - lust, greed, anger
The seven deadly sins: gossip, envy, jealousy, harsh compassionless living, a lack of love for the lost, living a prayerless, bibleless, wintessless “christian” life
I need to be in the word, I need to take time to pray and reflect (weekly bible study)
I need to be
I need to have accountability
Until I allow Jesus and his word to challenge, convict, and change me I won't be able to change those I love.
