1Co 11:17-34. Ben Murphy. This Sunday we’ll consider the significance of the Lord’s Supper as we look at 11:17-34. In this passage Paul addresses a significant issue of division in the church at Corinth, a division that was revealed in their celebration of the Lord’s Supper. It seems that there was a deep lack of genuine care for one another and a lack of humility that divide the rich from the poor, the haves from the have-nots. In addressing the issue Paul takes the church back to the theological truth of salvation represented in the supper; the fact that we are all totally dependant on Christ and in humble thankfulness we should be responsible to love and care for one another. Thus Paul shows that while the Lord’s Supper is an important theological celebration between the individual and Jesus, it is also a meant to be a statement of our unity as a church.
