The Setting

The Pharisees had rejected Jesus claiming that His power came from the devil.
To obscure the truth from them he began to speak in parables.
“The length is approximately 21". Hip measurement approximately 20", waist measurement approximaetly 15 1/2".
(ESV) so that “ ‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.’ ”
(ESV)
Quote from Isaiah’s call in .
12 so that “ ‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.’ ”
What a terrible state to be in, where the Lord allows your heart to be continually hardened due to rejection of his Word!

The Soils

The Hard Heart
The Shallow Heart
The Crowded Heart
Worries, Wealth and Wants crowd out the Word.
“The stones spoiled the root, the thorns spoiled the fruit.”
The Good Heart
(ESV)
21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
