3. MEETING CHRIST

I. THE SEEKING—vv.

A. Savior—v. . John was with Christ. Here he says in everyday language, “There is no doubt about it, this is the Son of God.”

B. Showing—vv. .

1. People—v. . John encouraged his disciples to follow Christ. John was building up God’s kingdom—not his own!

2. Person—v. . Jesus the Lamb of God.

C. Seeking—vv. . They were seeking where Christ lived. Note His words, “Come and see.” These people remained with Him.

II. THE SURRENDER—vv.

A. Disciple—v. . Andrew (Peter’s brother) was one of the disciples spoken of in v. .

B. Dedication—v. . Andrew was more than a Christian—he was a dedicated Christian! Because of this, he won Peter to Christ. Peter in turn won thousands.

C. Divine—v. . “And he brought Peter to meet Jesus. Jesus looked intently at Peter for a moment and then said, ‘You are Simon, John’s son—but you shall be called Peter, the Rock!’ ”—LB. When Jesus said that church would be built upon the rock——He did not mean that the church would be built upon Peter. The church would be built upon the CHRIST THE ROCK!

III. THE SAVIOR—vv.

A. Call—v. . Christ did not use force. He made no promises. He simply called.

B. Compassion—vv. . Philip sought Nathanael, trying to win him to Christ. ALL CHRISTIANS SHOULD DO THIS!

C. Complaint—v. . Nathanael was doubtful, wondering if any good could come out of Nazareth.

D. Christ—v. . “As they approached, Jesus said, ‘Here comes an honest man—a true son of Israel’ ”—LB.

E. Confession—. Christ knew all about Nathanael. Note Nathanael’s confession, “Thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.”

IV. THE SALVATION—vv.

A. Faith—v. . If we believe in Christ, great things will happen.

B. Forgiveness—v. . As the result of salvation, heaven would be the future home of Nathanael. This can be said of us also.
