How many can name any Jewish feasts?
There are four in the spring and 3 in the Fall. Spring - Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits. and Pentecost. Fall - Trumpets (Rosh-Hoshannah), Atonement (Yom Kippur), Tabernacles. The fall feasts were all fulfilled in Jesus Christ at his first coming. The last will be fulfilled by Him in the future.
Feast for the Jews served as remembrances of past events and dress rehearsals for future events.
Passover - Crucifixion
Unleavened Bread - Sinless Life
First-fruits - Resurrection
Pentecost - Holy Spirit given to the church
Trumpets (Rosh-Hoshannah) - Rapture
Yom-Kippur - Judgement of the wicked
Tabernacles - Millennium
Some important things are happening this week. 9/21 and 9/22 are the feast of Trumpets. 9/23 is the sign fulfilled in the heavens literally. The only complete time all components were in position in the last 7,000 years.
Facts about Trumpets - known as the day know one can know. (due to it relation to the new moon.)
This year 2017 has been named as the year of Peace & Safety. Each year since 1981 a different title has been given.
JESUS IS COMING SOON!
Joshua 1
1....The LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses Assistant.. Literally his “attendant, minister”
2 The LORD commands Joshua to take the people over the Jordan into the land he is giving them.
Question: What does the crossing of the Jordan symbolize? What does the promised land represent?
It is important to get this right. Paul tells us that the children of Israel crossing the Red Sea is symbolic of Baptism. See .
So those who receive Christ are baptized and become part of His Church and have eternal life. So in regard to Israel what happened after passing through the Red Sea? The had the opportunity to enter the promised land but because of unbelief the wandered the in the Desert, just circling for 40 years. So this would represent the Christian living life in the Flesh. Just circling the desert, dry and unsatisfied.
As believers, if we find ourselves in a dry place we must water the “fallow ground” by asking for the Holy Spirit to come upon us in a fresh new way. Remember we are leaky vessels. The experiences of yesterday are gone. You need fresh manna every day.
The Jordan crossing does not symbolize death and the promised land is not heaven. So what does the promised land represent? It is symbolic of the life of the believer that has been baptized in the Spirit and is living a life in the spirit, led by the spirit. So the Jordan crossing symbolizes the second baptism that of the Holy Spirit.
For some the baptism of the Holy Spirit is simultaneous with salvation but for most others it is secondary. My story - every thing changed when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He gives you boldness and power to serve Him.
Vs 2 note also that God tell Joshua the land he was giving them. If God gives you something its yours to possess.
What has God promised you?
Vs 3,4 Every place your foot touches… it is said that Israel only took 10% of the land God gave them. Why? Unbelief, laziness, selfishness..
The whole land was given, but they could only posses that which they claimed. .What they took must be fought for against a determined opposition. God certainly could have simply eliminated all their enemies with a mere thought; but He calls Israel into partnership with Himself to see His will done.
So it is in the spirit filled walk. We are called to fight and possess and take back what the enemy has stolen.
Vs 5 I will be with you: Victory is assured not because Joshua is a great leader, or because Israel is a great nation, but because God is a great God, and He says to Joshua, I will be with you. This is enough for any man seeking to do God’s will. Jesus promised the same to each of us!
Vs 6 - 9 Read out loud. What do think God’s message to Josua is here?
Be strong and very courageous: Joshua is called to boldness in God.This exposes Joshua’s weakness; there was a need for such a command, because even a great leader like Joshua needed such encouragement.
This bold courage would not be in Joshua himself, but in God.We can be full of self-confidence that will take us to ruin, but we should instead be full of a genuine God-confidence.
Why do think He repeats this command three times? Because he is afraid. We all are.
God’s second command is to observe all the Law of Moses. Very few are all in.. it takes courage and strength to be a “true Jesus follower” . But it is not enough to be proficient in knowledge the Word of God. Notice what Jesus said in . We must worship in Spirit and Truth.
See
The Word and the spirit are linked. Notice- Why That you may prosper wherever you go.
Note - Vs 8 the law “shall not depart from your mouth.. meditate on it. (Literally “mutter”.why - so you can have good success.
A good question to ask our selves is “what do I talk about” or what is my inner conversation about? Did you know we talk about what we care about.
God promises Joshua if he stays in the Word lives out the Law he will be prosperous and have good success. We all want to be successful and prosperous.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
Prosper - Heb Lit to force entry, to cut through, to cross, to be successful.
V9 Read this out loud: an now mutter this all week.
Jesus Christ is with you wherever you go, think about it. Taking this fact in what changes should take place in a believers life. We run from sin, we have boldness, confidence, and courage.
Read Vs 10 - 18
Vs 10 How do we “prepare provisions” for our walk in the spirit”.?
Get in the Word, know it, live it. Put on the armor of a believer. Live in constant conversation with you Lord.
Vs 12 -15 are Joshua command to those tribes who settled east of the promised land.
Spiritually this reminds of those believers that never fully enjoy the life God has promised them and choose to live outside of the life in the spirit. Saved but lonely and empty.
