The superscription in most bibles says that David wrote this particular Psalm when David dedicated the site that the temple would be built on.
David cared much about building God a house , David cared much about the things of God.
Another view is that this Psalm is a response to the Chastening of the Lord.
For Davids sin of numbering the people.
Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel.
So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army, “Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number.”
1 Chron
And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in that I have done this thing. But now, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”
In his days Edom revolted from the rule of Judah and set up a king of their own.
2 Chron 21:
So the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel, and 70,000 men of Israel fell.
1 Chron
You can see very clearly why God says that David is a man after God’s own heart.
And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up,
And hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me.
You refused to let my enemies triumph over me.
I will exalt: I will Worship , I will lift you up, because you lifted me up.
He Rescued me From The Enemy
“From the depths” as one translation says. This expresses the Human Experience: “The realm of the dead”, “The Pit”
You refused to let my enemies triumph/ rejoice over me:
Deliverance from the attack of foes.
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
I cried for Help: to utter aloud a request for help with intensity.
To help: make it easier for someone, to improve a situation
To support to allow them to move in a specified direction.
Oh Lord I cried to you for help: David says that I prayed and you answered me when I was in a desperate situation.
O Lord, You have brought my life up from Sheol (the place of the dead); You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit (the grave).
He Rescued me by Lifting me up.
He lifted me up from distress.
He Rescued me By Healing Me
To heal: to provide a cure for, to make healthy again.
to repair, to rebuild
He Delivered me from impending death
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
*David makes a call to all of the gathered worshipers for them to join in.
*Worship isn't a spectator sport
*Worship isn't a spectator sport
*He urges them to join in.
For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
Rescued from the momentary to the monumental.
God’s wrath:can be kindled, can be proved
It can get hot.
It can be fierce
It is slow
But His anger is momentary.
As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
Ps 30:
In my quietness
In my tranquility
In my ease
In my security
By your favor, O Lord,
you made my mountain stand strong;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
David says I’m not trusting in myself for continued well being
We must always remember that its God who makes whatever mountain I have , Stand Strong
God doesn't mind us having things but we must never forget who has given , who is keeping and who adds to it.
To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
“What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
Ps 30:
Helper:my power & my strength.
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
He Rescued me by bringing me from Pity to Praise
From Suffering to a Sacrifice of Praise
From Depressed to Delivered
From unhappy to full of joy
From aching to accelerating
From aching to acclerating
Rescue the Pershing :
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand’rer a Savior has died.
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Ps 30:
