Last week we looked at Paul’s prayer for believers
For them to know God more
Know that we are valued
Know God’s Power in Jesus!
This week we are going to look at that power that Jesus has.
Jesus Is Raised From The Dead
Jesus Is Raised From The Dead
20 He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens
The first and most powerful thing that Christ has done is to be raised from the dead!
Jesus has been raised from the dead and given power = (seating him at his right hand)
Death was not more powerful than Jesus
Brings fear
Controls us many times
Brokenness and sadness
The end of life
Jesus has conquered it
This gives us hope if we are followers of Christ
Because that same power that rose Jesus from the grave, will raise us up one day.
Death will not be our end!
This is the hope of all followers of Jesus.
God’s power helps us to:
resist the power of evil spirits (6:12)
do good works with our life (2:10)
overcome racism and hatred toward one another (2:14-16)
be patient, humble, and gentle (4:2-3)
live a life of sacrifice (5:1-2)
to run from sexual sin, greed, lying, anger, rage, and gossip (4:25-5:18)
Have a healthy family (5:22-6:9)
Jesus Has Power Over All Things
Jesus Has Power Over All Things
21 far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he subjected everything under his feet, and appointed him as head over everything for the church...
ruler, authority, power, and dominion, and title: These refer to spiritual powers working in the world
Are mostly unseen, but they are evil spiritual realities going on around us now
Temptations, thoughts, action, etc
Jesus has power over them all.
Uses all these names to show that Jesus is over ALL things.
Now and forever! (this age but also in the one to come)
Jesus has been put over everything, for the church.
Because Jesus will take care of his people (The church)
He will ensure nothing happens to his people
There is nothing that is more powerful than Jesus, not even death.
Jesus Fills The Church As We Fill The World
Jesus Fills The Church As We Fill The World
23 which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
What does this mean for us?
Verse 23 tells us that the church is Jesus’ body and fullness, and Jesus (the one) fills all things in every way.
How does he do this?
Jesus fill the people in the church is his love, grace and mercy by saving them through the gospel.
Then the people of the church live life in the world and tell others about Jesus.
Jesus fills us, we fill the world, and tell others!
This is why Wednesday Night is called the “Gathering”
So we can gather together, learn, talk, ask questions, and pray.
Then be scattered all over Altus to share Christ with others wherever you find yourself.
