Love As He Loves

John 15:9–17 ESV
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
Called To Love As Jesus Loves
Jesus Is Is The Friend
Last week we talked about the foundation for making an impact in our life and that is first being impacted by Jesus and what he’s done for us and this week we will talk about how love for God will result in love for people, which will lead to impacting people.
Opening ILL: The Princess' gift is hard to control, especially around her sister, Anna. So Elsa isolates herself in her room for fear of hurting Anna with her increasing power. But Elsa struggles to control her powers. After an incident where Elsa accidently freezes the kingdom, she flees to the mountains.
Anna chases after Elsa, but because Elsa is afraid she could hurt Anna, she demands that she leave. Elsa loses control of her power again, accidentally hitting Anna in the heart. A family of trolls, who greatly understand this kind of deep magic, tell Anna that only "an act of true love" can save her from death.
In this scene, Anna sacrifices herself for Elsa when Elsa is attacked by those who are afraid of her power.
"Anna," Elsa asks, "you sacrificed yourself for me?"
"I love you." Anna replied.
Olaf, Anna's snowman sidekick, remembering the Trolls prescription, says, "An act of love will thaw a frozen heart!"
"An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart." says Elsa. "Love will thaw … love … of course. Love!"
Love is such a powerful thing and motivator in our lives: Our love for certain foods, activities, and most of all people.
We are going to discover 2 things about God and how we can actually change the world when we give our all to following Jesus- our lives get flipped upside down when we follow Jesus and it also paves the way for a follower of Jesus to see the world be changed just as Jesus has changed our life. Jesus in one of the last things he teaches his closest friends before he is to go and be killed on the cross.
