Sermon

Matthew 18:15–20 NIV
“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

John 10:14 NIV
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—
John 10:16 NIV
I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

Matthew 18:12–14 NIV
“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

1 Corinthians 15:1–5 NIV
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.
Galatians 2:11–14 NIV
When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray. When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
Every sin is against the Lord and also against the Lord’s people. With respect to my Christian responsibility, it matters not whether the brother has robbed my house or my neighbor’s. His sin is damaging - to himself, to the name of Christ, and to all who bear the name of Christ” ( Sermon study on the gospel p 298).
Do not ignore the sin. Don’t expect it to go away by itself. Don’t say you’d rather not get involved. Don’t wait for the brother to come to you. Jesus says, “Go.”
1 Corinthians 9:19–22 NIV
Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
1 Peter 3:1 NIV
Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,
James 5:19–20 NIV
My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Rebuke and convict
James 5:19-20
John 8:46 NIV
Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?
1 Corinthians 14:24 NIV
But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all,
If they do not list to you:
Matthew 23:37 NIV
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
The church is the last court resort. There is no higher earthly court of appeal; the church is the “court of last resort”.
1 Corinthians 5:5 NIV
hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
Pray for the sinner to turn from sin. The preaching of law and gospel is the key. Pray for appropriate words to minister to the sinner’s heart. confidence that the Father hears our prayers.

“Tough and Tender Love for Sinners” Ua nrujtsiv thiab mos muag rau tus ua txhaum
A. It will not fail to uphold the law of God
B. It will not fail to offer the forgiveness of God
The church is a hospital for sinners because when they come, their sins are forgiven and they are heal. If the church is tolerate with sin and do away with sin, the church is just another ball room or place for people to hide sins. So the church is here to heal that’s why the church is a hospital for sinners.
Theme:
Part I. Sin is offensive - Deal with sin while you can. When someone deals with your sin - repent or pay the consequences.

B. If the sinner is not willing to repent, he/she may run but can not hide from sin. Excommunication is a good thing for the sinner
Part II. Prayer is an agreement between a group of people
A. If all the people agree, you must repent.
B. Prayer for a sinner to repent is a good way to love your sheep.
Dear friends in Christ:
There was a general. He was famous for war and victories. One of the major for him is that he was taught to his son. He demanded his son not to date girl, he expect his son not to quite when other quite. His son must practice harder and longer than others. When the king granted gift, food and clothing, he divided among others but not his son. His son was angry and did not want to serve with him. After his son was angry and wanted to demand answer, he gently show him why he treated his son the way he did.
The general explain to his son that his son was not born into a regular family but a general family. All the people are watching and expecting him to be the best of the best. He gave gifts to others because he wanted his son to love and to learn how to give without holding back. He was taught to his son bu the truth is that he was gentle because he wants to give his son the best of the best. He wanted his son to learn the skill in war, the leadership that have love for fellow man by giving what belongs to him to others.
Our message for today is being taught and gentle to the sinner. Let us be a son of God that is taught against sin but gentle toward our Christian brothers.
Jesus said to his disciples that when your brother sin against you, go and win him over. If he is not willing to change, tell it to the church. If he is not willing to listen, treat him as a pharisee or a tax collector.
How do you be taught to a sinner who is your Christian brother? Christ tell us to be taught because sin is not a game that we play around with. Taught to sin because sin against God is against the church and against the children of God. When the church is not taught on sin, the damage will eventually work as cancer, it kills inside out.
When sin is no longer a sin, the people come to church is a place for hiding sin. A church that is taught on sin, when the church is taught because the church wants to fix sin. The church become a hospital for sin. Those who come to a church that is taught will be healed but a person that come to a church that is not taught, it is a place that people pretending that there is nothing wrong.
When Christ tell us to go, we must go. It is not something we make excuse that I have nothing to do with this. It is not something we say, I do not want to tangle myself with this mess. It is the pastor. Most of us will respond like Cain. Lord, Am I my brother’s keeper? Yes, in Christ, you are your brother's keeper. We are asked to keep our brothers and sister free from sin.
We must remind our Christian family not to sin and not to fall into sin. We must fight against it. We must tell the world that you will not be forgiven if you play with fire. You will get burn.
Are you taught with sin or not? Are you taught with the sins that your peers enjoying? Are you taught with the sins that someone in here play with? if you know it and you pretend that you have nothing to do with it, you are sinner and you try to hide that person’s sin too. If that person died and meet Satan, you will also require to answer your sin too.
Ezekiel - son of man, if you tell them their sin, you are free. If you have not inform him/her, the blood that died will be paid by you. So, brothers and sisters, are you taught for sins?
All of us pretending that we are taught for sin but we let it go without saying much. We tolerate sin in our home and how can we tell others not to live in sin? it is clear that if we are not taught against sin in our home, how can we be taught against sin with our brothers/sisters in Christ.
the reason Christ tell us to go and tell the sinner to stop is for us to be taught. In most cases, the sinner will try to rebuke you. Rather than repentance, he/she rather ask to take the log in your eyes before he/she take the dust in their eyes out. What a shame!
If the sinner does not listen, tell it to the church. The world is full of smart people. There are courts that dealt with people but what is the church? The church is here to deal with sin. If a person is not willing to change, there is not point to live as a Christian. It brings shame and guilt to the family of God.
If the church dealt with the situation and the sinner does not repent, treat him/her as tax collectors or pagan. This is the worse case to let a sinner know that the sin they live in will not be tolerate by the family of Christ. This is call excommunication. The reason we are taught for such thing is to heal the sinner so that he/she will repent and have life.
