How important is baptism and the mode?
3 ways to baptize
Immersion - dunking or going under water (most commonly practiced in the first few centuries in the early church)
Affusion - pouring (generally practiced when there wasn’t enough water to immerse)
Aspersion - sprinkling (usually reserved for those to sick or unable to do the first two)
Reasons why baptism is important:
Jesus was baptized and he is our example
; ;
Jesus commands us to baptize those who accept Him
;
The Apostles taught baptism during Pentecost
Baptism is the first step in obedience after believing in Jesus
; ;
Baptism symbolizes starting our new life in Jesus
; ;
Immersion - death, burial and resurrection of Jesus
Pouring - pouring out of the Holy Spirit
Baptism moves everyone towards Biblical unity
; ;
If you lacked understanding of why to be baptized, do you need to be re-baptized?
It depends on what you mean by “lack of understanding?”
Reason to be saved: I’m a sinner and only Jesus can save me
Reason to be baptized: It is my “signing on the dotted line”
If you mean a general understanding of God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, etc then it’s not necessary
Some people will re-baptize if they accepted Jesus but then went other ways and are finally coming back to Him
Where does a person go at death, both saved and unsaved?
“Scriptures seem to indicate that all go to the grave and are raised on the last day.”
First places to start is to establish heaven and hell are places to go
Jesus on a few occasions says he goes to a place to prepare for us
