The Prophet Jeremiah -Touched by God
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Then said I:
“Ah, Lord God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”
But the Lord said to me:
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
For you shall go to all to whom I send you,
And whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of their faces,
For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.
Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to pull down,
To destroy and to throw down,
To build and to plant.”
The Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary Jeremiah (Prophet)
JEREMIAH (PROPHET). One of the major prophets in ancient Israel whose dates correspond roughly to the last half-century of Israel’s nationhood, i.e., 640–587 B.C. He survived, however, the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 B.C. and lived out the final years of his old age in Egypt where he was taken by refugees who sought exile there. His life and ministry on behalf of Yahweh, God of Israel, are the subject of the OT book bearing his name.
He was born under Assyrian captivity and Religious Corruption. It was during this time in which the King of Judah, Manasseh had allowed pagan worship in the Temple. He Grew up in a world of Tumultuous Change. He saw the Spiritual Revival during the Reign of King Josiah.
In the text we see Jeremiah is called at an early age but here is one problem I want to present from the outset. Jeremiah was born to a priestly family. Which men he is a preacher’s or a priest’s kid which means he is being trained even know to be a priest. He was born to be a priest, but God has called him to be a prophet!
The difference between a priest and prophet
The Role of Priest is dynastic meaning it passed from Father to Son
The Role of the Prophet was not dynastic it Chosen by God the Father
The task of the Priest was related to his office and his role it was not personal
The task of the Prophet was impart his personality and No two prophets are alike
The Priests wore a special uniform: The prophet did not
The Priest had the rules of Kavod(Honor) due to the Kohen.
The Prophet is only honored when he is listened to
The Priest were removed from the People they served in the Temple
The Prophet were with the People
The Priest offered Sacrifices in Silence
The Prophet served God through the Word.
The Priest function in cyclical time day, week, or month
The Prophet function in Covenantal Times When ever God needed you
The Priest service never Changed
The Prophets service always Changed
The Priest worked to sanctify the people
The Prophet worked as a response to the problems of the people
The Priest represent the Principle of Structure
The Prophet represents The Principle of Spontaneity.
The Key Words for the Priest are Discipline, Doctrine. and Dogma
The Key Words for the Prophet are Proclamation and Reformation
The Priest Speaks the Word of God for All Time
The Prophet Speaks the Word of God in Time.
The Prophet
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Jer. 1:4-5
Formed Him, Sanctified Him, Ordained Him ----
Who God Calls he He Qualifies!

Here is Jeremiah who is a son of a priest, but God has Called him to be a prophet. He is an introvert and God is calling to the ministry of an extrovert.
He’s Theological but God is making him Ecclessiastical
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

God is Stretching Jeremiah
Whenever God stretches you he will break you out of you of your personal insecurities!
He breaks us out of the mental mess up in our make up!!
Jeremiah Says in
Then said I:
“Ah, Lord God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”
We all have insecurities
I’m not Good enough
I don’t fit in
I always attract the wrong people
My Work isn’t Good enough
I’m afraid of failing
If people knew the real me, they would not like me
I’m afraid of saying how I really feel.
Don’t let insecurity ruin the beauty you were born with!!!
Don’t let insecurity detour your destiny.
Don’t let insecurity stop your success.
Insecurity will stop you before you start!!!
Insecurity will make you settle for less than you deserve!!
Then said I:
“Ah, Lord God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”
When God stretch you
God may want you to Do something
God may want you to Stop Doing something
God may want you to Give something
God may want you to Say something
God may want you to Stop Saying something
God may want you to Buy something
God may want you to sell something
God may want you to start something
God may want you to end something
God may want you to Love some.
Whenever God is stretching you he expanding you capacity to handle what’s coming next!!!!!!
2. God is Sending Jeremiah

You will Go Where I tell you to Go
You will Say What I tell you to Say
Whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Don’t be afraid of their face!!!!
God Has not Given me the Spirit of Fear but of Power Love
Fret not thyself because of evil doers or workers of iniquity
Fret not thyself because of evil doers or workers of iniquity
They are not made with you, They are made with God!!!
Jeremiah has to tell some people that God said it not looking God for you
Jeremiah has to tell some people that you need to stop lying
Jeremiah has to tell some people that you’v been playing with God to long
Jeremiah has to tell some people stop saying you a child of God and acting like the child of the devil.
Jeremiah has to tell some people, God is tired of your foolishness, mess it time to grow up and if you don’t, he going let the enemy have his way with you.
Jeremiah they are not going like these prophecies because it not you about to get a house, you not about to get car. You not about to get a check in the mail.
Jeremiah is the place where is God tells you to get you house in order. Choose this day who you will serve, but as for me and my house we shall serve the Lord.
God says I am with you!!!! Help me somebody! When you know God is with you! You don’t mind telling, it just like it is!!!
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
God is Stretching Jeremiah and he is Sending Jeremiah, but he is also

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:

To root out and to pull down,
To destroy and to throw down,
To build and to plant.”

Jeremiah is a getting his mission statement
Root Out--- Weeds- Bitter People, Bitter Experience, and want you to drink the poison of their bitterness to infect the love potion God has in your heart.
Pull Down--- Strongholds, those things that stop you from receiving the blessing of God!!!! Stronghold is an area that you have not surrendered to God. It whatever you hold on to that is not of God.
Destroy--- Idols anything that tries to make it self a God anything that you worship more than God
Throw Down- Every sin and weight that so easily besets us!!!
To Build it up and to plant!!!
Jesus said if you tare down this earthly tabernacle in three Ill build it up
He said just like Jonah was in the belly of the whale so shall the son of man be in the belly of the earth
