Most of us have seen paintings or drawings of Noah’s ark. Usually it is depicted as a little boat like this with pairs of animals sticking their heads out of the windows, with big smiles on their faces. Cute, but not very scriptural. The story of Noah and the ark God told him to build is quite different from the way most people in the world today think of it. Do we believe what the Bible says? Yes! If we believe what the Bible says then we will see what the story of Noah and the ark were really like. Do you guys want to hear the story of Noah and how the story of the ark really was like? Awesome, so let’s dive.

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

Our Bibles tell us that God always leaves a remnant of people whose hearts are true to Him. And that man was our hero Noah.

tells us that “Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” It says in verse 9 that Noah was a “righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.” It wasn’t Noah’s good deeds that won God’s approval. Noah was righteous, meaning he sought always to follow God’s standards, not his own. He was blameless, not perfect, but doing all in his power to be obedient to God’s wishes. That’s what walking with God is. As we go on, we’ll see how deep Noah’s desire was to please God.

God told Noah that He was going to put an end to all the people because of the enormity of their sin. Then he told Noah to do something very unusual--He wanted Noah to build an ark.

God also told Noah that along with himself and His family he needed to 2 every type of animal. From the insects on the ground to the bird in the sky. There needed to be one of every kind of animal both male and female.

How did Noah react to God’s request? Did he argue or tell God it was too big a task, or that it just didn’t make sense to him? No, Genesis tells us that Noah “did everything just as God commanded him.” While he built the ark and gathered animals and food, Noah warned people that God’s judgment was about to fall on them. Did the people believe Noah and repent? I’m afraid not. Finally God told Noah to go into the ark. In seven days God would cause it to rain for forty days and forty nights. Noah, along with his wife, his sons and their wives, and all the animals they had gathered, entered the ark. God Himself shut the door. Just as He had promised

the rains came and kept on coming. Water also came up from the wells of the deep to cover the earth until the ark was floating far above the surface of the earth, even above the tops of the tallest mountains. Every living thing still on the earth was covered with water and died. “Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.” Water covered the earth for one hundred and fifty days.

God thought of His promise to Noah and sent a wind to blow over the water to dry it up. This took many, many days because the flood was so huge. Gradually the land dried, and one year and seventeen days after Noah entered the ark, he and his family were able to leave it once again.

Right away, Noah built an altar and offered sacrifices on it to God. God was pleased with this and made a promise that He would never again curse the ground by flooding it, no matter how evil man was, nor would He destroy all life on earth again. He placed a rainbow in the clouds as a remembrance of that covenant.

Now why does this story matter to us right now? Noah is mentioned all the New Testament. he is described as a man of faith. “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”

Even though Noah could not see what God was planning, he trusted God and knew that he was good and that he was supposed to trust God even in the midst of a rainstorm. God is amazing and our great deliverer.

We need to be like Noah and not like the world he lived in. The world Noah lived in were very similar to ours. People today are angry, hurt other, and steal just like they when Noah was around. And we are called to be just like Noah and be a children who have faith in God. And it is amazing just like God gave Noah a way to be saved we can as well by trusting and believing in Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for not just mine but your guys’ sin and we can be saved and because of what God did for us.
