Review
I. What topic have we been covering for the past few weeks?
a.
We have been covering the topic of Christ being the Supreme source of Joy and Pleasure in a Christians life.
Jesus Christ is a treasure.
He is glorious.
He has all majesty.
He is the very source of all pleasure in all of the universe, after all, it was through Him that every good thing that we enjoy on this earth was made.
Introduction
I.
For the last few weeks we have been learning about How God delights in His Children, and how we as His Children are to delight in Him.
Christ is our source of Joy, our source of Pleasure, and apart from Him, there is no lasting pleasure, and no lasting delight.
Christians should be characterized and marked by pleasure in God.
How many of you have chores that you have to do around the house?
What are some of the chores that you have to do? Do you typically enjoy doing those chores?
II.
I have met very few people that enjoy doing chores around the house - Things like taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom, washing dishes, washing clothes, and so on.
For most of us we really approach chores with a lack of motivation.
We don’t want to do them, but we have to do them because it is necessary.
Other times though, we have such a hatred towards doing chores, that even though we know that they have to be done, we have to be forced or nagged into doing them, or they wont get done.
III.
I am very afraid that followers of Jesus have incorporated a lot of religious chores into their daily Christian lives.
They believe that reading their bibles, praying, and come to church are simply just chores that they have to do.
IV.
Or, others use the fact that they were reading their bible, praying, going to church as a way to simply say that they are a Christian, and using the fact that they do these things to bring themselves and others assurance of salvation, while they are living in blatant sin.
V.
So because of that, I want us to simply take a day to look at our motivations for doing the things that we do.
Is it because we love God, or is it because we want something from God?
Is it because we love God or because simply just feel obligated to do those task?
Why do Christians read the bible?
What words does the Psalmist use to describe the Word of God in ?
Psalm 19:78-11
Psalms 119:
What type of language is used by the psalmist in Psalm 119?
I. To people that aren’t Christians the words of scripture seem tedious, dull, or even ridiculous.
But to those who are followers of Jesus - to men and women whose hearts have been transformed by the passionate pursuit and faithful love of Christ - His words are priceless.
They aren’t merely read; they are reflected on.
They are not merely examined; they’re enjoyed.
They are not merely analyzed; they are applied.
