Impact: Jesus Set’s Us Apart

John 15:19
John 15:19–25 ESV
If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’

But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’ “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
Jesus Set’s Us Apart
Leaving A Lasting Impact Will Be Opposed By the World v. 19-25
2. We Are To Testify Alongside God’s Spirit Of The Good News of Jesus
2. Leaving a Lasting Impact Doesn’t Happen Alone v. 26-27
Opening ILL: Recap what we’ve learned… Story of sharing something that is of live and death news to save someone...
Story of the 5 monkeys, the ladder, and the bananas. Change is tough, people are comfortable, but you know what is even more is that leaving an legacy, leaving an impact that outlasts you is near impossible.
We can’t leave an impact and change our world so easily- it just doesn’t happen that way.
We are going to look at the final words in where Jesus shows us one last thing that we need to know if we want to see our world changed.
READ
Don’t Be Surprised The World Will Oppose The Gospel and Those Who Live It and Share It
The world was against Jesus when he lived and the world today is still against him.
ILL: Why will the world oppose the message of the gospel, and even oppose you who shares it? Some will respond some will oppose. You can see it in our school and society, many people are becoming angry with the gospel. (Martin Luther)
It’s kind of discouraging Jesus is saying to his disciples, hey guys, its going to be tough slugging, they’ve hated me don’t be surprised it will happen to you. A Servant isn’t greater than his master.
Jesus doesn’t stop here though, he doesn’t just say all this to discourage his followers, hey this will have moments where its going to be really tough..
2. Leaving A Lasting Impact Can’t Happen Apart From God
God says all of this and then he says “but”, its going to be rough “but” I am going to send my spirit to help you, to testify about myself, to work in hearts and lives to testify, its not all on you to make this happen, I’m going to be right there too working, encouraging, and testifying about me the risen saviour.
ILL: Peter speaks, the Spirit reaps, in and 3000 were added to their number, 3000 people believed in Christ…
Bob Pierce forms World Vision and then Samaritans Purse, God gave him a passion and wanted to see people cared for with the natural resources needed and hear the gospel of Jesus.
Jesus first needs to come into your heart and impact your life...
