Benediction (Anthony)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
forever.

Greeting (Anthony)
Friends, I thank you on behalf of Shawn and Ashley, for coming today to show your love and support as we remember their daughter, Dayze.
We come together in grief acknowledging our human loss.
This is a tender time, a time when all of us, in one way or another, are confronted with feelings of loss and uncertainty.
There will be disbelief and sadness in the hearts of many of us who are in this room.
Perhaps it is hard to admit, even to ourselves, how profoundly vulnerable death can make us feel.
But, we celebrate Dayze’s life even as we tremble with vulnerability.
For we know that whether we die quickly or slowly, we must all face the prospect of having to give up everything of this world before we will see God.
Our celebration of our love for Dayze, Shawn, Ashley, and the rest of the Marinelli family cannot blunt these feelings.
But, we are not here to feel better.
We are here to find strength and support in the sharing of this love.
We are here to share all of our joy and sorrow as that love reveals itself even more deeply in this time of loss.
Memorial Prayer
Let’s begin with prayer and then Jordan Ingle will share a poem selected by the family.
Lord, grant us peace to accept the things we cannot change, grant us the courage to change the things we can, and grant us the wisdom to know the difference.
May the Lord of Peace send peace to all who mourn, and comfort those who have suffered loss among us.
We pray to you for one another in our need, and for all, anywhere, who mourn with us this day.
To those who doubt, give light; to those who are weak, give strength; to those who sorrow, give peace.
Keep true in us the love which holds us together.
Lord, all you have given us is yours.
At first you gave Dayze to us; so now we give Dayze back to you.
Lord of Mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for Dayze, whom you called your daughter on earth, that she has entered the kingdom of peace and light.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, forever and ever.
Amen.

Message
When tragic events happen in life, we are forced to ask some of life’s most difficult questions.
Today, we mourn the death of a child and we’re consumed with questions about God’s justice, God’s morality, God’s goodness, God’s wisdom and knowledge, and God’s purposes.
There are many great questions to be asked, but I believe they all disappear into the shadows of one great reality.
Today, Dayze rests, safe in the arms of God the Father.
Today, for Dayze, there is no threat of disease, disaster, or death.
Today, there is no lack of love or fellowship.
Today, there is no need of care.
Today, there is no fear, no pain, no need of any kind, nor is there any want of any kind.
She rests, safe in the arms of the Father.
And I believe that Jesus is the way that Dayze has come to Him.
For, Jesus said,
I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.

[BRIEF PAUSE]
You might ask, How is it that a child, who couldn’t even speak, could come to the Father through Jesus?
Well, we don’t need to go any further than Jesus to know the answer.
You may have thought that it takes a great deal of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in order to know the Father, or in order to believe in Jesus.
But, that’s not really what Jesus taught.
Jesus had been all over the nation of Israel, healing and performing miracles and preaching that the Kingdom of God was present through him.
And many people, entire cities denounced Jesus.
Jesus said to them, ‘Woe to you,’ for he knew that these cities would not come to the Father, but would perish.
And after these proclamations of woe, Jesus prayed this prayer,
I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
