Opening: Spiritual Battles
Spiritual Victory starts before the battle, when we respond to God's Word in Worship
Spiritual Victory starts before the battle, when we respond to God's Word in Worship
When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
“Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.”
Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, “What does my Lord want to say to His servant?”
The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

We have to remember that our Battle is in the Spiritual Realm
When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
Here was something that Joshua had not seen before.
But this is not new!
There is an invisible world that we must understand exist.
“When the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD standing on the path with a drawn sword in His hand, she turned off the path and went into the field. So Balaam hit her to return her to the path.”

And we must also understand that we are at war in this invisible world.
“When the servant of the man of God got up early and went out, he discovered an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?” Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed, “LORD, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

All things were created for him and for his purpose
For everything was created by Him,
in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities—
all things have been created through Him and for Him.

You might be tempted to say, Pastor this is just an angel. Principle: Messenger coming from God’s holy presence is the same a God coming.
We have seen over and over again, that worship of God for who he is always precedes the battle.
Principle: Messenger coming from God’s holy presence is the same a God coming.
But it is a pure Worship of him, for who he is. It is not prefaced on what we think or what we like. It is our response to His holy nature. It should cause us to tremble. We realize that he is worthy of much more than what we have to offer anyway.
if you are a member of the church of God, you must own this, not as a general fact only, but as a fact particularly in your case. Christ is your Master. You are not to say, “I prefer this or that doctrine.” What have you to do with likes or dislikes? Believe what he tells you. You are not to say, “I prefer a certain form of worship.” What have you to do with preferences? Worship as the Master bids you. Alas! for the day when whims and tastes and fancies come into the Christian church to lead the people. All this Puseyism which we hear so much outcry about, is simply the putting up of taste into the place of simple obedience to Christ. If we would just keep close to God’s word, we should be right enough.”

Spiritual Victory comes because of the Lord’s Position in the midst of his people.

The battle that we face we cannot fight on our own. It is impossible. Our enemy Satan is real and is formidable. we have victory because He is in our presence. We must recognize this and respond accordingly. We cannot gaff off the enemy. We must understand him and his tactics, but we do not need to live in fear of him.
Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.

We don’t get to choose if we get to fight battles or not. We only get to choose how we will fight them.
