Reconciled to My Daddy
Colossians 1:19–23 NASB95
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. 21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

last week we have talk about repentance.
The main reason for repentance is not so God can make you feel low and sorry but so God can bring about the work of reconciliation.
“The number one problem in our world is alienation. Rich versus poor, black versus white, labor versus management, conservative versus liberal, East versus West . . . But Christ came to bring about reconciliation and peace.” Billy Graham

What is alienation?
a nation full of alienations.
Alienation is, the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one should be involved.
Alienation speaks of distance.
Proclaim forgiveness and reconciliation, which are the only way to achieve stable harmony. Joseph Ratzinger
“Proclaim forgiveness and reconciliation, which are the only way to achieve stable harmony.” Joseph Ratzinger
Reconciliation is essential to the gospel. Its the Good News that God has come to us to be near to us.
The book of Colossians was written by Paul when he was in prison in roman around 60 AD.
Talk about being alienated. In prison Paul testifies to the closeness of God.
The book was written to a church in Colosse was near the cities of Laodicea. Which Paul refers to several times.
You find the theme for this book in chapter 2 verse 6
Colossians 2:6–7 NASB95
6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
Colossians 2:6 NASB95
6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
And in verse chapter 3:20
Colossians 2:10 NASB95
10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
Colossians 2:10–11 NASB95
10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; 11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
Colossians 3:10 NASB95
10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—
nd in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
He call the believers to faithfulness and challenges them to put on Christ and to come into knowledge of God and be renewed to true knowledge according to the image of the one who created him.
And to come into knowledge of God and be renewed to true knowledge according to the image of the one who created him.
But to see this one to have this knowledge we have to start with reconciliation
Webster defines reconciled as:
1. Restore friendly relations between
2. Cause to coexist in harmony; make or show to be compatible
3. Make (one account) consistent with another, esp. by allowing for transactions begun but not yet completed
4. Settle (a disagreement)
5. Make someone accept (a disagreeable or unwelcome thing)
Colossians 1:20 NASB95
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
The Greek word in this text that is translated reconciled found in verse 20 “through Him to reconcile all things to Himself.”
The Greek word for reconciled here, “through Him to reconcile all things to Himself.” is apokatallassō meaning to reconcile fully.
The word here is apokatallassō meaning to reconcile fully.
Fully!Completely! Why? Because God does nothing half way.
God is not like a bad mechanic.
When He does something, He does it will.
So by definition, through/by Him to reconcile is to-
Restore friendly relationship FULLY
Cause to coexist in harmony FULLY
Make one consistent with the other FULLY
Settle (a disagreement) FULLY
Make someone Accept FULLY
This is the Father’s heart and desire for us.
Colossians 1:19 NASB95
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
It was the Father’s good pleasure....
Verse 19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him.
This points to the father’s great desire for us to dwell with and in Him Fully.
So how does he make this happen?
Through reconciliation.
Now this is so cool.
Colossians 1:12 NASB95
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
Again we see what the Father has done. Our Father in heaven has “qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
What a wonderful thing to think about.
I am qualified.
You don’t have to like me.
My first full time job, i just turned 20. the boss said. I have never hired anyone under 21.
The people I’m interviewing for this job have degrees and master. many have experience, one girl has even worked her before.
what can you do? so i started quoting scriptures. God qualified me.
I didn’t have to take a test, run a mile, challenge or compete against someone to be qualified. I am qualified because my Father in Heaven wanted me to be.
He has qualified me to share in the light of the inheritance of the saint.
How? Well I am glad you asked.
Colossians 1:13 NASB95
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
Verse 13, For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
He did the work, so i could cash the checks.
Verse 13, For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
By rescuing us from the domain darkness and transferring (carry, away, exchange, put out, remove, translate, turn away) us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.
Which is the kingdom of sons.
And in this kingdom verse 14 says,
Colossians 1:14 NASB95
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
“in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
How do we get from one domain to being transferred to dwell in to a new Kingdom where there is forgiveness of sins?
He reconcile us to Himself by Him (Jesus) ,
Colossians 1:15 NASB95
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Colossians 1:16 NASB95
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
col :1
He has made peace through the blood of His cross.
“the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” He has made peace through the blood of His cross.
In one of his little book on the New Testament, A. M. Hunter describes the picture at Catterick Camp in Yorkshire, which shows a signaler lying dead in no-man’s land. He had been sent out to repair a cable which had been broken by shell fire, and there he lies, cold in death, but with his task accomplished, for in his stiffened hand he holds the broken ends together. Beneath the picture is the word “through.” So too, by his once-for-all death on Calvary, Christ has brought God and man together in reconciliation and fellowship. Moreover, by his living presence at God’s right hand, he lives to make that death a potent reality in every worshiper.
Reconciliation brings peace.
Why does reconciliation bring peace?
Because verse 21 tell us our state before we were reconciled.
Colossians 1:21 NASB95
21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,
“And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds”
Theres that word again. We were in an alien nation.
Before we came to Christ we were alienated (estranged and away) from the Father. We were also hostile (enemies or foes, even hateful) in our minds towards God. We engaged in evil deeds and works.
BUT (King James) YET!!!! Verse 22
Colossians 1:22 NASB95
22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—
He has Now reconciled. Who? US!!!! How? Through Death
He has Now reconciled. Who? US!!!! How? Through Death
A husband and wife became estranged and decide to separate. They moved away and lived in different parts of the country. The husband happened to return to the city on business and went out to cemetery to the grave of their only son. Standing by the grave he heard a step behind him. When he turned, he saw his estranged wife. The initial impulse of both was to turn away. But they had a common interest in that grave, and instead of turning away they clasped hands over the grave of their son and were reconciled. They were reconciled by death.
There has been a change, a victory even.
We have been transferred and reconciled FULLY to Him. In His fleshly body through death (speaking of the Cross.)
In His fleshly body through death (speaking of the Cross.)
Reason….
In order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.
To be a holy child for the Father
1 Peter 1:14–16 NASB95
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
And a spotless bride for Christ
Revelation 19:7–8 NASB95
7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Revelations 19:7-8
"Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Conclusion. Verse 23
Colossians 1:23 NASB95
23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
If indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
If you continue…
Not turning again to the domain of darkness, but holding firmly and steadfast to the faith in the kingdom not moving away from this hope of the gospel.
I am FULLY reconciled to my Daddy in Heaven because of the work of His Beloved Son Jesus (my bridegroom the reason I get to share in the inheritance.)
He has transferred us to live in and dwell in a new kingdom, my Father’s Kingdom one filled with peace.
No longer alienated and hostile doing wicked works but reconciled to Him to be holy (Son) and spotless (Bribe) in His sight (Kingdom.)
Are you reconciled to God?
