When a Christian Sins

Psalm 51:3 KJV 1900
For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me.
This is a message for the Christian:
This person has had a point in their life where they were convicted of sin and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior for forgiveness of their sins. They base their salvation not on works, church attendance but by faith alone on what the bible says.
Are you a Christian?
Illustration of salvation - Dave Welsh The Wilds 2001 ; Bob Blakeslee ; etc....
Can you give your testimony? Is their an evidence that you are a Christian ?
Is reading the bible, worshiping the Lord just an after thought?
This message is for the Christian that sins.....
The Christian will sin
1 John 1:8–10 KJV 1900
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1.8-
Romans 7:19 KJV 1900
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
romans 7.19

Illustration - I really want to exercise each morning to loose weight. I set out my clothes the night before, I mapped out a course to run, and set my alarm clock. But when the alarm went off i decided not to get up. I knew what I should do but I did not do it.
The Christian will on purpose sin knowing it is wrong.
So what Happens when a Christian Sins?
1 st lets look at the consequences
First lets look at the consequences:
was written by David after he had gotten his heart right with God. he is look back on the consequences of sin in his life, and he writes this story, this record for us to read and learn from.

I Consequences of Sin

a) Sin Dirties the Soul -

Psalm 51:1–2 KJV 1900
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
psalm 51.1-2
He is the king - in royal robes, marble tub, sleeps in silken bed bathes with perfumed soap yet he feels dirty.
You will feel dirty - if not are you a christian.
It very uncomfortable - dirty diaper illustration.
Something is terribly wrong

b) Sin Dominated the Mind -

Psalm 51:3 KJV 1900
For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me.
Day and night this dominated his thinking. It went his soul continually
You might kick it out of your mind for a while but it comes back!
It will show up in your sub-conscience , temper attitude etc...
Maybe no sleep, lack of joy ....
its there night and day ....
If Not are you saved ....
illustration - missing test for Auburn Engineering class.
THE SIN KEEPS COMING BACK!
Throwing to ball with Aubie..... She keeps bringing it back....

c) Sin Disgraces the Lord

Psalm 51:4 KJV 1900
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done this evil in thy sight: That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.
I have sinned against God!
David sinned against God
But he committed adultery, murder, - not of these are mentioned.
Davids heart was broken.
He saw sin for what it was - an affront to God!
A unsaved man might feel bad what sin does to him and others but a saved man feels bad what it does to God!

d) Sin Depresses the Heart

Psalm 51:8 KJV 1900
Make me to hear joy and gladness; That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
The most miserable person is a christian with UN-confessed sin.
Proverbs 20:17 KJV 1900
Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; But afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
For a while it may be good.
Ted Finn stolen valour.
David had lost his joy.
Psalm 51:12 KJV 1900
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with thy free spirit.
Sin will also pressure the body
vs 8 says it was also affecting him physically
He is not talking about fractured bones but the pressure “he is being squeezed”
When under this pressure it will affect the body.
Emotional Stress
Heart Attack -50% increase
Stroke - 40%
Sometimes this also comes out with a critical spirit
Sometimes this also comes out with a critical spirit
Christians that are out of joint spiritually can be very negative a critical.
When a christian is backslid-en they take their eyes off the Lord and critical of the one Jesus died for.

II The Cleansing of the Christian

a) Confidence

Psalm 51:1 KJV 1900
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
David was confident no mater what the sin there was mercy.
God had not stopped loving him!
Romans 5:8 KJV 1900
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
No matter what we have done God loves us!
I saw a sign once that I love—a lost dog sign. There was a big cash reward for whoever found the lost dog, and a description of the dog. It said: "He's only got three legs, he's blind in the left eye, he's missing a right ear, his tail has been broken off, he was neutered accidentally by a fence—ouch!—he's almost deaf, and he answers by the name 'Lucky.'"
That dog isn't lucky! He's been through a whole lot of mess. But he's lucky because he's got an owner who loves him and wants him back. That's what redemption is all about!

b) Confession

Psalm 51:2–3 KJV 1900
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me.
I am the sinner
I am the one
No excuses- the devil made me do it ....
No alibi jesus died for sin ....
Confess is to agree with God about the sin not just to admit!
Confess is to agree with God about the sin not just to admit!
Illustration excuses -
Just remember that when it is confessed that finished!
1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The devil will continue to bring up that which had been confessed. he is the accuser of the brethren.
1 John 1:7 KJV 1900
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

c) Cleansing

Psalm 51:2 KJV 1900
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
God will give you a spiritual bath. Outside
the on the inside
Psalm 51:7 KJV 1900

Isaiah 1:18 KJV 1900
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Stain on carpet - down stairs could not be cleaned
Stain on dress -
Pastor gave an illustration :
Modest couple went out shopping for anniversary. His wife saw a beautiful dress it was very costly. He bought it was a gift and she was beautiful. The first time they went out for dinner she dropped cherrie pie on her dress. After taking it to the cleaners the stain was still present .... The dress sits in her closet can not be used again.
Psalm 51:12–15 KJV 1900
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; And sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: And my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; And my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
psalm 51.
David would be used again .
What am I asking you to know?
