GOD WILL COMFORT

Isaiah 40:1-11

The words in 40:1-11 begin with God saying to His people through His prophet Isaiah,

that God’s period of discipline is almost over and salvation and blessing are coming.

“Hard Service” in verse 2 in Hebrew is “warfare” and “time of enlistment in war.”

Judah’s captivity was like the hardships of war.

The trial had come because of their sin.

But now their sin had been paid for.

When we are experiencing great difficulty in our life and we know that Christ is our Saviour,

we can pray for God either to deliver us from such trouble or to be with us and help us while we are in the middle of it.

To give us Comfort is a job of our Triune God:

II Corinthians 1:3 says “God the Father is called ‘the God of all Comfort”’

Isaiah 61:2 says He will “comfort all who mourn” this is a quality of the ministry of the Son of God.

John 14:16, 26; 15:26; and 16:7, the Holy Spirit is called “the Counselor.”

God:  the One who stands alongside us to provide comfort, counsel and help.

Verses 3-5 is about a voice of one calling

True prophets are “voices, ‘for their messages are from God.”’

These verses refer to:     The Jews’ return from exile

The coming of the Messiah and His salvation

The completion of redemption in the new heaven and the

                                                new earth.

John the Baptist was a desert prophet who in Matthew 3:3, prepared the way for Jesus

Christ, and who in the wilderness made a road for Him.

John the Baptist made clear in Matthew 3:1-8, that the way to prepare for the Lord’s

          coming was through repentance.

Here in Isaiah the entire nation, each person was in a Spiritual Wilderness, they each had

to get ready spiritually for the appearing of the Lord and His Glory.

John 1:14 tells us the disciples saw Jesus’ Glory.

But ALL mankind has not yet seen it, but we will see it.

The coming Glory is certain for the Lord has spoken it in Isaiah 1:20 and Isaiah 58:14.

The word of the Lord is sure and cannot be broken.

Verses 6-8 says, The Word of God stands forever

All created life is frail and weak and will ultimately come to an end, but God’s Word

          stands forever.

We are temporary and we change.

We are like wild grass and flowers that come up in the spring time only to fade and

fail when the weather gets hot.

By contrast, God never fails for His Word stands forever.

                    God’s promises will be fulfilled.

His redemptive truth cannot be canceled or changed.

                    God’s Word stands forever.

Verses 9-11 tells us The Lord comes with power

Salvation, Blessing and Comfort is all associated with the coming of the Lord for His

          faithful people.

He comes with Power and Authority like a mighty ruler.

Yet His presence is like that of a caring Shepherd tending His lambs.

(Genesis 49:24; Ezekiel 34:23; 37:24; John 10:11, 14; Hebrews 13:20; and I Peter 5:4)

This truth should fill us with Faith, Hope and Prayerful longing for His nearness and

special visitation, while we look for the day of His return and for final redemption.

                   (I Thessalonians 4:14-18)

The Lord gathers the lambs in His arms

God is described in Matthew 6:24-34 as one who picks up an individual lamb in order to

protect it and carry it close to His heart.

Although God is all Powerful and He regards the nations as dust.

He still cares for each one of us in a personal way.

We must never think that God is so Majestic that He ignores the needs and problems of

          each individual believer.

God is first the Sovereign Lord who is Powerful.

But He is our Shepherd who is Tender, Loving and who Carefully Carries and Leads each of us.

Our Saviour is Sovereign, Powerful, Strong, Tender, and Loving.

He Carries and Leads us every day.

He NEVER leaves us.

Each one of us is the Apple of His eye.

Do you know this Saviour who is Sovereign, Powerful, Strong, Tender and Loving?

Please stand and pray with me.        Salvation Prayer

If you prayed that prayer and invited Jesus into your heart for the first time or you are coming back to the Lord, please see me after the service.
