Intro

Story how belief matters

Explanation

Faith according to James
Requires Action
Requires Compassion
Requires Evidence

Proposition

Faith works on you.

Faith Requires Action

James 2:14 NIV
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?
James 2:

What good is IT

Brothers and Sisters - we are in this together. What I’m about to say is hard but it is said with love.
IT =
Claim of faith
no deeds to accompany faith
If you REALLY believe something it changes your behavior
When I get up in the morning to go to work, it’s because I believe some things
Im going to do something to provide for my family’s needs
I believe I’m going to be around people that need Him and God might use me to reach them.
so I go.
my parents taught me to look both ways to cross the street....
If my breath stinks people will avoid me.
almost everything we do is because we believe there is some benefit or detriment if we do or don’t do it.
If you have a belief that Christ came to save and it does not change anything… then there is a real problem.

Can that faith save?

A resounding no.
We do things and don’t do things to prolong or at lease make this life we live today better.
HOW MUCH MORE should we do or not do things because we have been rescued from eternal damnation and brought to eternal life.
if we REALLY believe the Son of God loved us so much that he Died for us so that we would be cleansed, and he lives in our hearts if we REALLY believe that and there is no outward expression of that well, then we don’t REALLY believe.

Faith Requires Compassion

James 2:15
James 2:15–17 NIV
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

His Love Toward Us

How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a writh His treasure
John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
How
Mark 1:41 NIV
Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
Mark 1:41
Galatians 5:6 NIV
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

Our Love Towards Him

John 21:
John 21:17 NIV
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
His desire is that we love him
That love is demonstrated in a few ways
John 14:15 NIV
“If you love me, keep my commands.
If we believe him we will put His words into practice
Matthew 7:24 NIV
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew
Matthew 12:50 NIV
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Mathew 12:
If He Fait inside us, His love will come out of us.
its commanded.
Matthew 22:39 NIV
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
it’s our sign
John 13:35 NIV
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 15:13 NIV
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Faith Requires Evidence

James 2:18–26 NIV
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
James 2:18-
I’ve been talking about how James will often leave us feeling guilty.
It is impossible to answer the impossible questions?
Do we love enough?
Do we believe enough?
Are we doing enough?
In fact, if we stay there, we can only find the answer that there is always something else we could have done… and there really is no excuse.
Abraham believed. He had a faith so strong he was willing to kill his son for it. He believed he heard from God and packed his bag and took his family to a place that he didn’t even know where he was going...... God took a normal person and made a father of nations.
Rahab was a prostitute. No one even know why she harbored the Israelite spies. But she had Faith and God gave His people the promised land through it. And she entered the geneology in Jesus Christ.
The normal, the bad, the unlikely....... YOU
The thing about faith is that God uses it to make you great. That’s the evidence.
If you believe--- God will use you
Im a pastor
Matthew 17:20 NIV
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
