Today’s message is about Wisdom.

Wisdom: (Sophia) the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

Smart/Dumb people. Too much knowledge and not enough experience.

Daewoo Laganza : Midsize Luxury car. Blew engine/ company closed /Dealership got a loaner / 6 months got a new motor put in.

16,000 “deal” of a luxury car was worth $2,250 just a couple years later.

Not a wise purchase!

James in the 3rd chapter of his letter is teaching us what true wisdom is.

James 3:13 NASB95

Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

James 3:

Get in an argument with your spouse and can’t wait to say, “I told you so!”

Teach that knows more than you, and tries to make you feel stupid?

That is not true wisdom.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.

James 3:

American Dream: the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.

Honey Boo Boo and the Kardashians obviously didn’t have to work hard to achieve success and prosperity.

Reality shows teach us that if you are bitterly jealous and selfishly ambitious, you win.

But there is a fundamental flaw in this definition of the American Dream! That being that the goal is personal success and prosperity.

James 3:15–16 NASB95

This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

Natural: If you work hard and are determined and achieve personal success and prosperity you will be praised and admired my men and idolized by kids. But if you use that success as a stage to turn the hearts of people against the Nation that provided you the opportunity you were given, you are.......

Romans 1:22–23 NASB95

Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Our goal as followers of Christ has to be the glory, not of ones self, but of God! Not to preach a prosperity gospel, but preach for the prosperity of the gospel.

James 3:

James 3:17 NASB95

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

Pure: Unstained by the world, perfect, innocent without error.

Psalm 12:6 NASB95

The words of the Lord are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

Just as an empty stomach will make your mouth water at the mention of good food, a heart emptied of jealousy and selfishness will hunger of Godly wisdom.

So how do you get it?

James 1:5 NASB95

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

What happens when we receive The pure wisdom of God?

James 3:18 NASB95

And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

James

Pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.......The Wisdom of God is found only in the person of Jesus Christ!
