The Structure of Midway Baptist Church CORE Class | Week Three I CORINTHIANS 14:33,40 33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order. TITUS 1:5 5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:" Introduction:______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Christ is the Head of the Church. COLOSSIANS 1:17-18 30 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 31 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. A. Christ purchased the church (ACTS 20:28). B. Christ is over the church (EPHESIANS 1:22-23). C. The church is accountable to Christ (REVELATION 2-3). 2. The Pastor Serves as the Under-Shepherd. I PETER 5:1-3 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. A. The pastor feeds the flock through Bible preaching and teaching. 2 TIMOTHY 4:2 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. B. The pastor prays for the flock. I THESSALONIANS 1:2 2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; C. The pastor protects the flock. ACTS 20:28-29 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. D. The pastor leads the flock. HEBREWS 13:7, 17 7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. 3. The Deacons Serve the Church Family. I TIMOTHY 3:10 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. DEACONS SERVE IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: A.
