All His Soul
All His Soul
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
He followed God. How did he do that? What steps did he take in such a evil world?
1. Restoring Trlue Worship
1. Restoring Trlue Worship
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money that has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the threshold have collected from the people. And let it be given into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen who are at the house of the Lord, repairing the house
dAnd he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, e“In Jerjusalem will I put my name.” 5 And he built altars cfor all the host of heaven in fthe two courts of the house of the Lord.
First step, get true worship going.
Previous evil kings destroyed and closed the temple.
temple. Notice that true worship was not worship that seemed the most "engaging" and "relavent" in those days. True worship was comparatively boring.

Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
The second step in genuine revival information is to have deep Bible study the goes beyond the status quo.
Refer to Prophet
Refer to Prophet
So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect.
6. Gift of prophecy.
Notice, to this point, the deep Bible study started with only the leaders. As the leaders of the church, we need to be digging deeper than everyone else.
We are humans like everyone else. We need your prayers and encouragement.
But we also need be held accountable, ina loving way.
3. Confession
3. Confession
When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.
The third step is to have a heart of confession and confession when we realize that the word of God is talking about our own sins.
. Earnest Prayer
. Earnest Prayer
“Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
ask for direction.
Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. And the king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord.
7. Biblical instruction.
Chro
Teaching people truth. Even teaching leaders truth that they should have know but had been neglecting.
And she said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me, Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read. Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.
We should always take the Word of God seriously and never believe that he is not going to do what he says. So many people want to believe only the parts of the Bible where it talks about God's graciousness and not about his judgement. We need to be realistic and honest with ourselves and accept both personalities of God.
4. Inquire of the Prophet
4. Inquire of the Prophet
“Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter), and they talked with her.

We have prophet too. We should refer to her on the wisdom for our current situation.
Through Huldah the LORD sent Josiah word that Jerusalem’s ruin could not be averted. Even should the people now humble themselves before God, they could not escape their punishment. So long had their senses been deadened by wrongdoing that, if judgment should not come upon them, they would soon return to the same sinful course. PK 399

5.Humility an Repentance
5.Humility an Repentance
Now the men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad, and the land is unfruitful.”
Are only hope for success is a deep sense of humility and repentance. God loves humble country heart and he cannot reject that position of the heart. But if we continue to probably believe that God is going to bless us in our sin we will be sadly mistaken.
6. Corporate Teaching/Discipleship

The sixth step is to teach everyone truth, standards, instructions.
Before the deep Bible study happened only among the leaders.
The leaders experience personal revival.
bring what was personal revival into a setting of corporate revival.
Now, they bring what was personal revival into a setting of corporate revival.
He lead all the leaders in Israel to a deep need for revival and reformation.
7. Public Committment
7. Public Committment
And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people joined in the covenant.

After teaching them the truth and the standards, he did not leave it at that. He led the people who were conviceted of a need for change to re-establish the covenant.
What was the result?

7. Destroy Idols
7. Destroy Idols
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried their ashes to Bethel.
The 7th step is to destroy the idols that all of us are publicly worshipping. To bring standards back into our life. To have certain things that all of us can say this is not God.

And Josiah removed all the shrines also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which kings of Israel had made, provoking the Lord to anger. He did to them according to all that he had done at Bethel.
Josiah went into areas that were, technically speaking, not his territory. He had not authority there.
Samaria was the area of Israel not Judah. The Golden calf was not his to destroy. But he did.
Some people say, we should just look at Jesus, just talk about Jesus, do not address any sins of anyone. “Don’t go into their territory.”
That may sound nice, but this is not what the Bible teaches.
8. Remove False Leaders
8. Remove False Leaders
And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellations and all the host of the heavens.
The next step is to remove false leaders who are not following God with all their heart and did not allowed them to take leadership anymore.

2 Kings 23:19
What's your sign it did was a thorough housekeeping. He cleaned his house of all that was evil and that was dreadful condemned by God. Is it possible, that we also need to to do a thorough house cleaning. Yes I know we do in each of our own houses. But I also wonder if we get to the point where we can establish certain standards which are forgot and what you're not then we can also do a thorough house cleaning corporately and our church.
And the king commanded all the people, “Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” For no such Passover had been kept since the days of the judges who judged Israel, or during all the days of the kings of Israel or of the kings of Judah.
They begin to worship God in power. At a lot of our church services and other programs during the weuuek hardly anybody comes. But when there's genuine revival and Reformation the church is packed. I know there's many reasons why. Different people can't make it to difference services but there's also many poor excuses. If God is really leading and guiding us and we are wanting to experience the deepest senses of revival and Reformation then we will put ourselves where God is working.

he broke down the altars and beat the Asherim and the images into powder and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
Notice he felt it was his job to affect Reformation even in Israel which was technically out of his boundarie
