This week we are going to be getting into our fifth and final topic in our series through the “sola’s” of the Reformation.
Now the sola that we are going to be looking at today is actually a very interesting one compared to the other four solas.
The reason for this is because the Catholic church in the day’s of Martin Luther actually would have agreed with this statement.
If you asked a devout Catholic in the 1600’s if he believed in faith alone or grace alone, he would disagree.
he would say that salvation was a mixture of our faith in Christ as well as our good works.
If you asked him if he believed in Scripture alone, he would disagree.
If you guys aren’t familiar with the Catholic Bible, there are plenty of books in it besides the 66 that we know of as the inspired “Scriptures” today.
If you asked him if him believes in Christ alone, on the outside he might say yes.
But, if you dug a little deeper, you would see him praying to saints and to the Virgin Mary on top of Jesus Christ.
But if you asked him if he believes that God deserves glory alone, and whether or not we are to do all things for his glory, he would say yes.
