Define Tongue.. Outward expressions
In that day.. spoken word, letters, and actions
Today - social media is crazy.
Cyber bullying. In my day you could be bullied at school and learn ways to cope with it. These days it never goes away. I post these little videos occasionally and usually by the end of the day it has around 200 views.
While our words are what they are we should compare what His words do
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
5. 2 ti 3:16
PS
Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

Not and admonishment to never teach as much as it tells us how important that teaching is

1. we are judged more strictly
It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.
luke 17:2
What we teach has a dire consequence on those we teach
Our attitudes, our actions, our words, they all communicate a message
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
You are a letter for Christ
You are a result of ministry to you
and others will be a result of your ministry

1. Samuel .. not a work he spoke ever fell to the ground
The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.
If you can keep what you say in check, you can keep everything else in check
C. If you can keep what you say in check, you can keep everything else in check
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
Three Examples of
Three Examples of
Controlling the tongue controls the person
How many times have we been in situations where we know we should just keep our mouths shut. Sometimes we do and sometimes we allow ourselves a little “release” we “vent” just a little. Can I just say that there has never been a time when I gave myself permission to speak when I knew I should keep my mouth shut that it went well.
There have been times however when my silence helped rather than hurt. That despite the fact that I knew I was right, it was better to just keep it to myself.
My wife has a saying.. Being right isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
2. When you can steer your tongue you can navigate through storms
When you can steer your tongue you can navigate through storms
We live in a world where there are many storms. We fight. We watch others fight.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
lets rephrase.. If you are a child of God… you are a peacemaker
the best way to make peace
use your mouth
say 3 words… I am sorry
say 3 more words … I love you
3. Fire - the tongue unchecked can bring great destruction
a. to you
b. to others
c. like a wild fire

7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
I. You cant do it yourself
1. We can tame all sorts of wild animals
2. No human being can tame the tongue
a. not your own
b. not others
side bar -- this should allow you great mercy towards others
* If you cannot control our own tongue you should excercise great mercy and forgiveness for the stupid things people say. They literally can't help themselves.
2. No HUMAN ----- God can
1. Sallt water = dead sea
2. Fresh water brings life
3. fig tree, olives... grapevine, figs... you produce what is in you to produce
4. fresh water ---- fresh = new we need a new inside
a. you must be born again
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
