DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL?

It’s an age old problem: there’s more to do then

Time is our most valuable resource on Earth

The skies are not always blue

Leadership requires time-management

Storms are as much a part of life as starlight

POOR TIME-MANAGEMENT:

Leadership requires discipline

This fact can sometimes throw leaders into a quandary

1. Leaders who only accomplish what’s urgent, not what’s important

Luke 10:39–40 ESV
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

4 LAWS OF GREAT TIME MANAGEMENT:

1) Schedule Your Values First

LESSON:
Luke 10:39–40 ESV
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”
Daniel 6:10 NLT
But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

LESSON: Do more of what matters most

QUESTION: What are your non-negotiables?

2) Say No to Good Things

Acts 6:3–4 NLT
And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”

LESSON: Stop overcommitting

QUESTION: SHOULD I do this? (Not CAN I do this?)

3) Create Personal Deadlines

Daniel 1:12 ESV
“Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Daniel 1:12–13 ESV
“Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”

LESSON: Get better results with less effort

QUESTION: What needs more structure?

4) Empower Others Intentionally

Exodus 18:14 NLT
When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?”

LESSON: Don’t give assingments, give authority

QUESTION: What can somebody do 50% as good as me and has potential?

Exodus 18:14 NLT
When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?”

CONCLUSION:

Acts 6:3–4 NLT
And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”
John 14:12 NLT
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

CONCLUSION

A few final tips...

You have time for what you choose to have time for

If the devil can’t make you bad, he will make you busy

Do a few things really well

John 14:12 NLT
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
1 Peter 4:10 NLT
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
