1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;
4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;
5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
last week when we where talking about the ressurection power of Jesus we looked at
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Hope is empowering

understand that The enemy and life wants to steal your peace.
But we have hope.
The Greek word for Hope is elpis (el-pece' ) meaning, to anticipate, usually with pleasure expectation or confidence

He also said
~ “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
again, Hopelessness is a silent killer.
When one has lost hope they are in a dangerous place.
To believe there no help no way of escape or future.
24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;
27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. 26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
This body that has been subject to sin will be brought in to experience the glory of God, at this time it still carries the nature of the “old man” and is subject to its temptation.
The body and the mind is subject to weakness, discouragement, loneness and doubt.
Only as one maintains his position in Christ does he maintain the liberty in the flesh. At any time the believer can set his mind on the flesh and experience the power of sin again rising up within.
The passages that we have been studying describes the expectancy of the believer to see God’s final work of salvation.
The suffering of creation being made subject to futility is a close parallel of the believer’s suffering hope for complete liberation.
Here we see the believer groaning within himself, the creation groaning, and the Holy Spirit groaning as He intercedes for us.
The believer groans while waiting for the redemption.
The word groans here is stenadzo, meaning to sigh, groan because of undesirable circumstance.
The suffering of this present time are not worthy to compare to the glory to be revealed in us. Verse 18
1. The body of the believer awaits future glory.
2. Believers groans because of undesirable circumstances.
3. Physical suffering
There is glory and splendor waiting to be revealed in a moment. We shall enter and share His glory.
The believer groans in HOPE.
24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
Remember hope is the word elpis meaning hope, expectation
1. Salvation has brought the believer into the sphere of hope.
2. Hope is the expectation of glory of Christ. V 18
3. Hope is the waiting eagerly for our adoption as son v 23
4. Hope is waiting eagerly… the redemption of our body
5. Hope brings perseverance v 25
The believer does not groan in despair, as he experiences the suffering of Christ, he suffers with joy knowing that “we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.” V 17
There was a preacher I knew back in Arkansas. That hung himself.
When we lose hope we lose purpose.
David said
5 Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
Often time when you talking about suicide it not a question of faith or knowing that God is real.
The question will God, help or save?
People who kill themselves because they are mad at God have not lost faith in Him.
Because you can’t be mad at something that you don’t believe in.
They have lost hope.
I used to wonder why that woman is still with that man.
He is mean and he doesn’t love Jesus.
Or how that mother never gave up on their child.
Its because they had Hope.
Look at someone and say keep Hope alive.
A hopeless people are a sad people
I know this church hope
Every Sunday
I hope we are eating lunch by 1230
I hope he doesn’t chase rabbit this morning
I hope…
Well church don’t lose hope
To hope is to live
To hope is to find joy when there may be none.
To hope is to laugh when you are crying
Hope is seeing something that is not there and believing it anyway…
5 How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is he who has the God of [special revelation to] Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.
If this message is not for you this morning know that it is for someone you know.
Many people are struggling with hopelessness in silent.
Nobody knows their pain.
To you that feel this way I beg you get help turn to Jesus and hope again and hope big.
Don’t be downcast put your trust in God.
And for you that have much hope spread it.
16 I heard and my inward parts trembled,
At the sound my lips quivered.
Decay enters my bones,
And in my place I tremble.
Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress,
For the people to arise who will invade us.
17 Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,
18 Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
19 The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.
For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.

Ill close with this.
Why was he able to do this ?
Habakkuk declare I will rejoice in the Lord and joy in the God of my salvation-
Habakkuk declare I will rejoice in the Lord and joy in the God of my salvation-
1. if the fig tree does not blossom
2. If the vines do not bear fruit.
3. If the olive crop fail
4. If the crops in the field fail
5. If the flock be cut off the fold
6. If the herd be cut off from the stalls
Why? Because…
1. The Lord God was His Strength
2. He would make him as sure-footed as hinds
Make him walk
