Great Distress

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

David was in the midst of great distress but he stills maintains his confidence and implores God’s aid. He’s anticipating relief, and offers praise.

In this individual lament psalm the psalmist is someone under personal attack. The entire psalm is addressed to Yahweh. The psalmist first describes the situation (vv. 1–2), then expresses confidence in Yahweh to protect and sustain him (vv. 3–6). Finally, he petitions Yahweh to deliver him (vv. 7–8).
