Dealing with The Trapped

When- when caught in sin
Galatians 6:1 ESV
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
When- when anyone is caught in sin
Caught- actually seen sinning
OR trapped in sin
When one is known to be walking in the lusts of the flesh.
The implication is that it will happen eventually.
We all sin!
1 John 1:8 ESV
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
We all have a sin nature (the flesh)
We will all yield at times
WE MUSTN’T just excuse it, but fight it!
Who- those who are spiritual
Those in step with the Spirit at the time.
Galatians 5:25 ESV
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Gal. 5:
If you come across someone who has fallen into a pit, what would you do?
What if it was a close friend? family member? your enemy?
Seeing them in sin is the same thing!
What- Restore him
lit. reduce- same medical term used for reducing a dislocated joint back into place
NOT amputate!
the purpose is to bring them back into the church!
Matthew 18:15–20 ESV
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Sharing the Load

Galatians 6:2 ESV
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
We are connected to each other
Galatians 6:3 ESV
For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Carry one another’s burdens
Help each other through life
That is part of why Jesus gave us the church.
What law of Christ does this fulfil?
Matthew 22:39 ESV
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Watching Yourself

Galatians 6:3–5 ESV
For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.
A warning against pride
“anyone thinks he is something”
deception!
An instruction to test yourself
really look at yourself
are you in step with the Spirit, or walking in the lusts of the flesh?
Are you loving your brothers and sisters?
Do you lighten their loads?
Ultimately we will answer for ourselves before GOD.
