Mark 1:14–15 ESV
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
John as Precursor of Christ
Literal “John was handed over”
When God steps into history it always disrupts the well laid plans of individuals.

I. Fulfillment of Time

The arrival Christ was foretold and planned by God.
There is no perfect sense of time.
Within God’s plan
Creation
Fall
Redemption
If the only passage of scripture we had available to us was we would complete understand God’s plan.
Creation
Corruption
Catastrophe
Confusion
Christ
Cross
Consummation
God’s timing
Gospel illustrates that God is active in human affairs.
Zechariah 14:9 ESV
And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

II. Kingdom of God is at Hand.

The return of Israel
The kingdom is not an earthly kingdom.
John 4:21-2
John 4:21–25 ESV
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.”
The Central Locale of God
Ezekiel 10:18 ESV

Who is my brother?
Matthew 12:50 ESV
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

III. Repent and Believe

What are we repenting of?
What is belief/Truth?
Is it really that simple?
Easy Believism
John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Matthew 7:15–20 ESV
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
Jesus’ call is universal, Jesus is not a universalist.
