Intro:

AG: Some things are more important than others. When you receive junk email do you give it the same importance as high priority messages?
In the realm of our spiritual lives there are some things that really matter.
In the realm of our spiritual lives there are some things that really, really matter. We are told what really counts. Paul closes the letter to the Galatians with his own hand and using large letters. It would be like using bold print in an email. It is his way of saying pay close attention to this section of the letter.
TS: Paul finishes his thoughts and contrasting the flesh and spirit as he takes up sowing and reaping.
RS:
Galatians 6:6–18 ESV
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
Galatians 6:6-

A Specific Example

Galatians 6:6 ESV
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches.
Galatians 6:6–10 ESV
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Sharing with Teachers

Sharing with Teachers
Let the one who is taught share with the one who teaches
There is a call to give generously (Vs 6-8)
The teacher of God’s Word is to be supported. Even as early as the first century there were teachers of the Word supported by God’s people. I am glad to know that it is not some distortion that came out of the dark ages of the church.
Paul worked as a tentmaker but did receive a gift from Philippi. Paul taught here and elsewhere that supporting God’s servants is the outgrowth of a Spirit led congregation. A spiritual church and spiritual Christian share finances and share burdens.
Paul and many were itinerant preachers.
They were supported by the gifts from the churches.
Paul at times was bivocational.
At other times, he was supported by churches.
1 Corinthians 9:11–14 ESV
If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings? In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.
Sowing and Reaping

Sowing and Reaping

We find the principle of sowing and reaping (Vs 7-8)
The farmer knows if you sow weeds you reap weeds.
God cannot be mocked
“lit. treat with contempt”
You cannot treat God with contempt… and WIN
You are deceiving yourself.
Galatians 6:7 ESV
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
to flesh
The law of sowing and reaping is a universal principle God established in the universe.
If you plant peas, what do you expect to harvest?
If you plant wheat, what will grow?
Paul highlights the two options.
to flesh
Galatians 6:8 ESV
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
If you sow only after the flesh-
reaps corruption
Sow in the sinful nature you will reap destruction.
to spirit
If you sow to spirit, reap eternal life
Sow in Spiritual and you will reap eternal blessings. Once it is harvest time it is too late to change what you sow. But right now you can start sowing in the spiritual.
This goes back to the lust of the flesh and the fruit of the spirit.
Don’t get tired
Galatians 6:9–10 ESV
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Keep sowing, even if the harvest isn’t apparent.
Keep praying
Keep witnessing
Keep serving
Keep doing good
Do good to all
+10
Especially to those who are brothers and sisters.

Final Words

Galatians 6:11–18 ESV
