Lady Jane Gray

9 Day queen
Between Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Mary
Lady Jane Grey is put on the throne in an effort to keep in from Queen Mary, better known as ‘Bloody Mary’
JG’s mother was the daughter of Henry VIII’s sister. No bloodline.
She was sent to the Tower of London.
This is where the puritans are taken during the reign of Mary
Brought in through the traitors gate.
She was 16 years old. Martyred at 17.
Mary sends the Archbishop to win over JG.
What are the sacraments? AB: “How many sacraments?” JG: “Two. Baptism and Lord’s supper.” AB: “No! There are 7.” JG: “By what scripture to you find these?”
He changes the subject to justification.
This is an uncoached 17 year old.
Feckingham: “Base your faith upon these authors and not the church.”
JG: “No, I ground my faith upon God’s word. I say that it is an evil church and not the spouse of Christ that changes the Lord’s supper and both takes from it and adds to it. To that church, I say, God will add plagues.”
FHam: “What then is required of the Christian? To believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost? The three persons, one God. Is there nothing else to be required of a Christian that to believe? Yes! We must love him with all our heart, mind, and strength. And, we must love our neighbor as ourself. Why then only faith only justifies not or saves not?
JG: “Yes, it is as you say. For Paul says that we are justified by faith.....Love is only comprehended in faith. Faith only saves, but it is necessary to do good works in token that he follows his master, Jesus. But, let us never say that these works profit to our salvation. For when we have done all, we are unprofitable servants, faith only in Christ’s blood saves us.”
Faith only saves, but it is necessary to do good works in token that he follows his master, Jesus. But, let us never say that these works profit to our salvation. For when we have done all, we are unprofitable servants, faith only in Christ’s blood saves us.”
Unwilling to recant, she doomed to the gallows to be hanged. She writes a letter in her Bible to her sister, Catherine, to rejoice in Christ and to lay her life upon Jesus’ Cross.
This is the faith of the disciple. The is the faith of discipleship.
