The Christian's Charge - Ephesians 6:10

FCF: Failure to depend on God
Proposition: The believer must look to God for strength.
Introduction: I have always been fascinated with the comic hero, Superman. I remember growing up I would rush home to get in front of the tv to watch the superman series. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, more powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet, look up in the sky, it's a bird it's a plane, it's superman.
I learned very soon that Superman was not real and that in times of trouble he would not appear.
Perhaps the greatest lesson we each could learn is that we must place our trust in God. When others fail we can depend on God. This is Paul's challenge to this church in Ephesus. He charges the believer to be strong in the Lord but how i hear you asking?
I. Be Empowered By the Lord
- the power of every believer comes from God we can do nothing without Him
the word be strong in the original text means to enable, to strengthen, to make strong.
- Paul's charge is that we allow God to strengthen us
- through His Word
- through prayer
We can only be strengthened by God.
- Gin & Juice won't do it
- Grey-goose, wild turkey, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam
- Covasier, Allezay, Tanguray won't do it
- weed won't do it
- You can't do it
Only God can empower you
II. Be Confident in God's Ability
Let me say that with any reservation that God is able to take care of you. Nothing is to hard for God.
- Notice the word, Strength, it means dominion,
⇒ The Lord’s power (kratos) means His sovereign, unlimited power and dominion over all. Which means for you and me that there is nothing outside of God's control.
⇒ The Lord’s might (ischuos) means strength, force, ability. It means His ability to use His strength and force wisely, that is, in perfection.
--“For with God nothing shall be impossible” ().
--“Fear thou not; For I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” ().
There are some battles you needn't fight because God will fight them for you!
