Living with Kingdom Purpose
INTRODUCTION:
It really doesn’t matter Lord, just do what you will with us Lord…..
If any persons, any biblical character can attest to living these words out loud Paul seems to stand in the front of the line.
Paul’s life and ministry exemplify what it means to live with Purpose for the Kingdom.
His past life in many ways would have led us to believe Paul would have never been aboard the Kingdom Agenda.
He was a brute and brawler who met Christ on the road to Damascus He was in the company of those who stoned Stephen He sought opportunities to destroy what was to become the Christian movement
Paul’s life is one that cries out loud that when you surrender to the will of God wherever you are, God will make your life a life of Kingdom Purpose.
He writes these words within this text, and clearly enlightens us with his passion for the work of the kingdom and what it really means to be in it for the advancement of Christ.
As he sits in this Roman prison, remarkably enough he does it with joy and elation.
Not because of what he thinks he is doing, but because of what he knows God is doing through him.
Paul gives you and I a bird’s eye view of what it means to suffer for Christ and live determined to advance His kingdom.
He teaches us to accept God’s purpose for us even when it becomes a struggle.
Paul has been shunned, ridiculed and now jailed not for some horrible crime or some major injustice but for nothing but that of preaching Christ.
Nero the Emperor has already made it clear that anyone caught preaching Christ will be imprisoned and executed.
Paul makes it his business to preach Christ at all cost.
Interestingly he is in prison and still preaching.
Today our society is just about the same as it was then in regard to the Church.
No we may not see many being imprisoned for their beliefs, however; we do note that many who are resistant to the word of God.
There is the mentality today which says don’t preach to me or tell me how to live.
Just leave me alone.
Our government has banned prayer from school, blacklisted churches, and supports sinful acts by making them law.
Let’s be honest though.
It’s not just the government.
We have friends, family members, work on jobs and are in relationships which prohibit our acknowledgment of Christ.
The question is though where do you stand?
Where do I stand as believers and children of God? Do we live in the status quo or do we live with kingdom purpose.
Frustrating as it may be to be a Christian in this day and time we are not excused from our responsibilities to the Kingdom.
We are challenged by Paul today to live with purpose for God.
Proposition: God’s will is not always easy to endure, but when we accept it we are effective for His Kingdom work.
Transition:
Make The Most of Your Limitations ()
The Romans had a custom when they guard a prisoner At first sight it would really appear that Paul was doomed and finished.
He was in prison, he was chained and he was isolated.
But Paul used his chains as an opportunity.
(He was chained 24 hrs/ 4 guards he preached) He saw an opportunity that he knew he wouldn’t have had if he had not been imprisoned.
Sometimes God allows some chains in our lives not for our hurt and anguish, pouting and complaining, but because they afford us opportunities to do His will effectively.
Not only was he helpful in the palace, he was helpful to those who were outside the palace.
(v.14)
There were those who were encouraged.
They were confident, they were without fear.
ILLUSTRATION: I am the oldest of twelve (12) children.
My mother is a nurses assistant and my father is a pastor.
Growing up, they could not afford the jordache, guess, or 501 jeans for us all.
They couldn’t afford the addidas, nike, or bally shoes.
But they kept us clean.
The toughskins, and wranglers worked.
Though they were chained by poverty, they were at their best when it came to loving us all.
They refused to allow any of those limitations to keep them from being all God had purposed them to be as parents.
Application: Look, wherever you are in life you can be effective.
Look beyond your circumstance and your condition and make the most of them.
Whatever your struggle, whatever your situation, look around you and see the opportunities that lie in place for kingdom advancement.
*Whether it is financial, personal, mental, relational, physical, and even spiritual.
We are all chained by something and have been limited somewhere.
But just because you are limited does not mean you have lost.
As a matter of fact it is an indication that you are on the winning side.
I didn’t say that the Bible says it.
Moses was limited at the Red Sea
Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace
Gideon with his 300
David his sling shot
Jeremiah his dungeon
Elijah on Mt.
Carmel
Elisha and the widow’s oil
Daniel in the lions den
Noah and his Ark
Hosea and his desperate housewife
Jesus on the cross!!
Transition: Our limitations are our opportunities to glorify God
Paul helps us to see something else important to the Kingdom work.
Keep Your Motives in Check ()
While God may allow some limitations in our life for the benefit and the advancement of His kingdom we must remain cognizant of the evils of Satan.
Satan does not desire that we remain with God’s program.
He works hard to impede our Solidarity with the Savior!
Paul warns that there were those, who were envy driven, strife minded and resented him for whatever reason.
These guys were insincere about the work.
Their main motivations were to out do Paul.
They preached not to advance the kingdom but to have bigger churches.
They were preaching to have followers rather than Disciples of Christ.
They were working for their own selfish ambition.
There was no concept of we are one team and united for the same cause.
Our motives are to be in check if we are gonna do this work.
We must realize that this is kingdom business and the enemy is on the opposing side.

Transition:
Rejoice Continuously ()
The truth is, it is difficult to be happy when people are hurting you.
Paul says but even still thank God the Gospel goes forth, which teaches us to
have a heart that extends even to the selfish and arrogant.
He says it’s worth it.
Though I am resented, it’s worth it.
Though I am hated, it is worth it.
Though they persecute me, it is worth it.
He says I have no regrets because ultimately all I want is the Gospel to be spread.
If it takes me getting beat up for the gospel, it is alright with me because it is not about me.
Why should I feel discouraged
Why should the shadows come
Why should my heart feel lonely
