Why We Need A Savior
FCF: Disobedience, Worldliness, Lust,
Proposition: Without a Savior we would be lost and without hope.
Because Christ has died for us, we are saved.
We have been delivered from the penalty we so justly deserve.
Introduction: I really love the Star Wars Trilogy.
I own the dvd box set.
I own the digital set.
When Star Wars comes on television I watch it.
I enjoy it because the story follows a hero who saves the Galaxy from an evil antagonistic.
There is a scene where princess Laia sent a message to Obi-Wan Kanobi, which said, "Help us, Obi-Wan, you're our only hope."
That's it, that's all the message says, "Help us, Obi-Wan, you're our only hope!"
Transition: This text today, demonstrates those very words.
We need the help of God and He is our only hope!
That's exactly what Paul was saying to the Church at Ephesus.
Without God we are spiritually dead.
1.
We Need A Savior, Because We Were Spiritually Dead (v.1)
Our lives are spiritually separated from God as sinners, Paul describes this as being dead.
A. In trespasses - the idea of falling aside when one should have stood upright
B. In sin - means to miss the mark, to wander from the right path, to go wrong, to do wrong.
ILLUSTRATION: It is amazing what modern medicine can do for a patient.
Doctors can remodel disfigured faces, transplant kidneys, implant lenses, bypass arteries - as long as the patient is alive.
Once the person is dead, doctors can do nothing more than pull a sheet over the body and transfer the corpse to the morgue.
But God begins with people who are dead in the fullest sense of the word - dead in trespasses and sins.
APPLICATION: Allow God to revive us.
Determine that you cannot live without God.
Transition: Paul wanted this Church to recognize the deliverance of God through Jesus Christ.
He reminds them that we needed a savior because there walk was indifferent to the will of God.
2. We Need A Savior, Because We Were Under The Influence of Satan (v.2)
we walked according to the world
we walked according to satan
we lived in the lust of the flesh

3. We Need A Savior, Because We Were Eternally Doomed (v.3)
children of wrath

Conclusion:
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore
very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more.
But the mater of the sea, heard my despairing cry
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else can help
Love lifted me
