Something New and Something Old
Something New and Something Old
Illus: Inception—dreams chaotic
We don’t worry about creational chaos because God has made a covenant with Creation.
1. The Flood presents a new creation.
parralells with Genesis 1
2. The Flood presents a new Adam (Noah).
a. be fruitful and multiply
b. God assist mankind with the animals—chaos, now the dread of man will be on them.
Dominion and rule.
Animals are given for food—vegetarian/vegan diet removed.
No blood—there is to be a respect for the life of animals.
But human life is separated. No cannibalism or homicide. Even animals that kill humans in the Bible are held responsible.
c. We are family—human life is special and of priceless value and worth.
We are all related
God requires retributive justice. A life for a life. Thus God holds the community responsible.
d. The covenant with Noah creates a firm stage of history where God can work out his plan for rescuing the fallen world.
God binds himself, obligates himself, and he will maintain the covenant despite human failures.
3. The Flood presents a new Fall.
Like Adam, Noah is a gardener. Noah is also a disobedient son whose sin results in a shameful nakedness.
Once again the human partner within the covenant has failed.
