Using Your God Given Authority

Today as we continue studying AUTHORITY, we will look at how we are empowered to use our God given authority. The last time I shared we talked about:
1. Understanding Authority And Power
2. Christ's Authority and Power
3. Jesus gives his authority to us
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
NKJV
Jesus lead by example and empowered us to do the work of the Kingdom. We need to live a life that shows a Demonstration of the authority and power of Christ in our lives, we need to Pray for people, believe for miracles in their lives, God has empowered us with His Anointing, let us impart it into others and Step out in faith and see God move.
LETS OPEN IN PRAYER
1. Jesus Teaches with Authority
Mark 1:21–28 NKJV
21 Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” 28 And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.
Jesus Teaches with Authority
Luke 4:31–37 NKJV
31 Then He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths. 32 And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority. 33 Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him. 36 Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” 37 And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
2. Jesus Heals Many
In the time of Jesus ministry on the earth we see that He performed many healings throughout the lands that He travelled. He healed the sick, raise the dead and cast out many demons.   “...I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who HEALS you.”
“...I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who HEALS you.”
Our God is a healing God! — “Jehovah-Rapha”
•• Our God is a healing God! — “Jehovah-Rapha”• It’s not just what He does, but what He is. • You serve a “Lord who heals you.”
It’s not just what He does, but what He is.
You serve a “Lord who heals you.”
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Matthew 8:14–17 NKJV
14 Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. 16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”
Matt 8:14-

Mark 1:29–34 NKJV
29 Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them. 32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.

Luke 4:38
Luke 4:38–41 NKJV
38 Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. 39 So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them. 40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.
Mark 1:29–33 NKJV

John 14:2 NKJV
2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
We are to do the works, which Jesus did.
Opening
We are entrusted with the important task of carrying on the ministry of Jesus. We are to do the very works, which Christ did. He preach the gospel, he healed the sick, cast out demons, ministered to the poor, gave hope to those who are without hope.
Tonight we are continuing on with the subject of Authority of God/Submission to Him. I have entitled this message The Authority of God. We are going to have a look at what it is to know authority and when we know authority then you can walk in it. Authority is given by God and not by man. There is a process that we have to go through to get into a position under and in Gods authority.
What are the works, which Jesus did? He preach the gospel, he healed the sick, cast out demons, ministered to the poor, gave hope to those who are without hope. Read the gospel and you will find out what Jesus did.
, Jesus told the disciples these signs shall accompany you wherever you go, in my name you shall cast out demons, and heal the sick and so on. The disciples caught what Jesus was saying to them and the church grew. If we wont the church to grow we need to do as Christ and the disciples did.
We are to do the works that Jesus did.
T.S: We are to do the works which Jesus did, but we must come to a realisation that without Him we can do nothing. Our work must arise out of intimacy with Jesus.
Open in prayer
2. Work must arise out of intimacy with Christ. ()
Let us open in prayer: Father I pray that as I bring your word tonight it will help us continue to grow and understand Your authority and how we can be under and in it and have it outwork in our lives. Amen
We got to realise that work must arise out of our love for the master. Jesus in says, “without me you can do nothing.”
We got to realise that work must arise out of our love for the master. Jesus in says, “without me you can do nothing.”
Finally I want to conclude by saying that God does not only want us to do the works of Christ, he wants us to do greater works.
Many of us who serves God we become weary and tired why? Because we are not serving Him because we love him, we are doing so because we feel more spiritual and religious. Some serve because we think that we can win merits. We can only bear fruits in our work and ministry when we abide in Christ, when we spent time with Him, and because we love him so much, that love compels us to serve Him. Our works must flow out from the love that we have for Him.
T.S.: Finally I want to conclude by saying that God does not only want us to do the works of Christ, he wants us to do greater works.
Point 1: Knowing Authority.
We are to do greater works.
Let us open our bibles to the book of :
John 14:12 NKJV
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
In Jesus said, “If I do not go away, the Helper will not come”
We are going to look at a character in this scripture that knew what it was to be under authority so he knew what it was to be in authority.
Jesus said you shall do greater works because I go to my Father. The church will do greater works because the Holy Spirit is coming. tells: You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. In Jesus time on earth he was anointed by the Spirit. Today we have the Holy Spirit available to us, we have been anointed and empowered by Him to do the works of the Kingdom.
1 John 2:20 NKJV
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
says that greater works shall we do because Christ goes to the Father. What actually does Jesus mean by that? In Jesus said, “If I do not go away, the Helper will not come” Here Jesus said you shall do greater works because I go to my Father. So what Jesus meant here is that the church is going to do greater works because the Holy Spirit is coming. You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. We shall do greater works because during Jesus ministry, he alone is anointed by the Spirit. But when the Spirit comes every believer who is baptised in the Holy Spirit can carry out the same ministry of Christ. Instead of one Christ, we have multiple people doing the very same anointed ministry of Christ. Therefore the magnitude of the work way surpasses what He could accomplish.
But when the Spirit comes every believer who is baptised in the Holy Spirit can carry out the same ministry of Christ. Instead of one Christ, we have multiple people doing the very same anointed ministry of Christ. Therefore the magnitude of the work way surpasses what He could accomplish.
Use what we have been given
The power for work comes from the anointing of the Spirit or the empowerment of the Spirit. It is not by might nor by power but by thy Spirit. Many of us here knows that we need the anointing of the Spirit, for ministry, but few realised that God has already anointed you. The bible in says that “You have an anointing from the Holy One,……” Many run from seminars to seminars hoping to receive some anointing from some anointing man of God. In fact some of you have received so much oil and have not used it that you have become sticky all over. You are anointed. This is not a promise, this is a reality! Each of you that is seated here who have already been baptise in the Holy Spirit, you are like a hand grenade. In order for you to explode you simply need to act by pulling the pin. Elisha, when the mantle fell from heaven he need not keep the mantle in some showcase, he took the mantle and he strike the river Jordan with it and the river parted. Listen here the mantle has already fallen on you and all that you need to do is to know that you have the anointing and then act on it. When you know of someone who is sick, you don’t have to straight away call up the pastor, you and pray for the person believing that God can heal through you. God had empowered you to do the works of Christ.
Elisha, when the mantle fell from heaven, continued the works that and miracles that Elijah did, When you know of someone who is sick, go and pray for them, you don’t have to call the pastor, pray for the person believing that God can heal them through you. God has empowered you to do the works of Christ.

Conclusion
This morning I would like to challenge you, step out with the authority that has been given to you from God through Christ Jesus, we are anointed to do the works of the Kingdom which God has calling us to do. When we step out in faith and do what we have been commissioned to do then we will see the Kingdom/Church grow and a mighty explosion of the Holy Spirit in this place.
(5) Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, (6) saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." (7) And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." (8) The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.
that you will arise and go forth knowing that God has already anointed you, you trust in the anointing and do the works, which God is calling you to do. When every one of you does that let me tell you there will be a mighty explosion of the Holy Spirit in this place. Amen.
You need to understand that for the centurion to say that he was not worthy for Jesus to come under his was going against all that society was at that time. Society placed the centurion over Jesus at that time but he understood that Jesus had authority over him.
Lets Pray
(9) For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." (10) When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! (11) And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. (12) But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (13) Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.
For us we first start to learn about authority as children when we learn obedience to our parents. The bible tells us this very clearly.
Altercall
"Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (2) "HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER," which is the first commandment with promise: (3) "THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU AND YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH."
When you know the authority you have in Jesus then you can be strong in it and stand on what you believe.
Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?" (24) But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: (25) The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' (26) But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet." (27) So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Point 2: Authority/Position is given by God.
Authority/Position is given by God, but that will only happen when we make the choice to give our lives wholly to Him. Ps John talked this morning about the importance of understanding authority and why God has instituted it.
Ps John mentioned that when we are looking for leaders there are four gates that people need to go through.
The first gate is the gate of commitment; this is where you are fully committed to the process of God working in your life and fully committed to the local church.
The second gate is the gate of service; this is where you are fully committed to serving God and others without reward to yourself.
Share about my commitment to God and being challenged straight after I had made it.
The third gate is the gate of authority; this is where you have learnt to and understand authority and Gods method of leadership.
The fourth gate is the gate of governance; this is where you have learnt to walk in authority and are functioning in all the other areas.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Point 3: Blessing that comes from walking in and under authority.
As we saw in the story earlier of the centurion this was a man that walked in and under authority and because of this he had a great understanding of placing faith in the God given authority of Jesus so much that he chose to place himself under that authority. The centurion was a man that had authority in society but he chose to be under Gods authority. Through this he received the blessing that his servant was fully restored.
When we place ourselves under the authority of God and under the authority He places upon our leaders, we receive the blessing of that submission. Those in authority over us help us to grow and it is for our benefit. God has designed this structure for the benefit of His people, the church, the body of Christ.
. Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God; and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and they will be punished. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right and they will honour you.
We also receive blessings when we walk in the authority of Christ.
And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (17) And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
When we walk in the authority of Christ then we can stand in faith and believe in His power that we are safe.
Conclusion.
In concluding tonight we have looked at
Point 1: Knowing Authority.
The centurion knew what it was to be under authority so he knew what it was to be in authority. Likewise for us we need to know what it is to be under authority so we know what it is to be in authority.
Point 2: Authority/Position is given by God.
Authority/Position is given by God, but that will only happen when we make the choice to give our lives wholly to Him. This is where we were talking about the four gates that we must go through.
1. The gate of commitment.
2. The gate of service.
3. The gate of authority.
4. The gate of governance.
Point 3: Blessing that comes from walking in and under authority.
When we place ourselves under the authority of God and under the authority He places upon our leaders, we receive the blessing of that submission.
When we walk in the authority of Christ then we can stand in faith and believe in His power that we are safe.
"Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
