Introduction
Zealous.
Passionate.
On fire.
Being Fervent in Spirit.
These may be ways that you and I may describe how we feel about many things in life.
We are passionate about Madrid high school football.
We are zealous or enthusiastic about our families, our work, etc.
But would we say these kind of things about our devotion to Jesus?
Better yet, do our actions show that we are on fire for Him, or do they show that we are lukewarm at best or even ice-cold in our faith?
Lord willing, our series during November and December will help us to understand what it means to be zealous and help each of us to be able to say, “I am on fire for the Lord.”

What Does It Mean To Be Zealous?
Whenever we think of Zeal, the first thing that may come to mind is ‘being enthusiastic or excited about something.’
This is a good definition when we talk about how passionate we can be towards things like sports, work, hobbies, etc., but this definition does not fully sum up what the Bible calls God’s people to in regards to being zealous.
We should be excited and enthusiastic about the Lord, but our passion needs to go beyond this.
Here is the definition we will work with as we go through this series of Biblical Zeal:
Zeal is “having a burning desire to please God that is shown by showing courage, diligence, and wisdom in loving and serving others.”
Let’s look at some passages that show these traits about zeal.
Courage
Diligence
Wisdom
Loving and Serving Others
These are the traits we are called to in showing zeal, and these are also what we see in the Bible as God shows zeal in His actions.
