Who is the Holy Spirit?

The third person of the trinity.

We must

we must understand that Gods ways are higher than our ways, his thoughts are greater than our thoughts.

So we cannot fully understand it completely.

Some just ignore the question.

Fully God fully Spirit.

Some just don’t understand.

God exemplifies his omniscience/and omnipresence through the Holy Spirit.

Omniscience is Knowing everything.

omnipresence is being everywhere.

Psalm 139:7–8 ESV

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

Sheol is described in the original as grave sites, where the dead would be laid.

We can know that the Holy Spirit is indeed a divine person because He possesses a mind, emotions, and a will.

1 Corinthians 2:10 ESV

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

The Holy spirit is the comforter and counselor Jesus promised he would be.

John 14:16 ESV

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,

John 14:26 ESV

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

John 15:26 ESV

“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.

What does the Holy Spirit Do?

The Holy Spirit seals us as Sons and Daughters of Jesus Christ. And promises our salvation.

Ephesians 1:13 ESV

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

The spirit intercedes our prayers. we Pray Gods thoughts through Gods spirit.

Jude 20 ESV

But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,

The spirit convicts us to do the will of God.

Romans 8:26–27 ESV

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

The Spirit sets Himself against the desires of the flesh and leads the believer into righteousness.

The Spirit keeps us from doing things that our flesh wants us to do. Brings us to be more like Jesus.

The flesh is what you want to do that is not what God wants of you.

Galatians 5:16–18 ESV

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

we are commanded to yield ourselves completely to the Holy spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 ESV

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

We must be fully controlled by the spirit.

How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

The holy spirit os promised to every believer in Jesus Christ.

every christian is given the holy spirit at the point of believing.

But what about the filling of the spirit?

We must be completely controlled by the spirit and the fruit of the spirit becomes more evident in our lives.

when this happens we do not experience the fullness of God.

This is not only applied to our outward actions but to our inward thoughts.

So what hinders the filling of the holy spirit?

SIN.

A prayer does not fill us with the spirit.

Its obedience to the Father.

Get in the habit of repenting imminently.

Talk about the time between sining and repenting.

How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

Romans 12:2 ESV

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

This world is trying to tell you who you were. Telling you who to be like.

God forgives, walk away from your past.

the renewing of your mind comes from a greek work that we get our english word “metamorphosis” meaning total change from the inside out.

Our minds become more like the mind of Jesus.

But only by being renewed spiritually can a believer ascertain, do, and enjoy the will of God.

Romans 12:11 ESV

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

We should be enthusiastic with our relationship with God. Be excited.

We must offer our bodies to Jesus as a living sacrifice. Its no longer about you and I.

Romans 12:1 ESV

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

God has a perfect plan for you.

Thats what Jesus did for you and I. A living sacrifice.

gods will for you and I is perfect.

How and why should I tell others?

Because Jesus told us to.

Matthew 28:16–20 ESV

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This command was not given as an option.

Once the transformation takes place in your heart that is what you and I are called to do.

we are also called to be salt and light in this dark decaying world.

Matthew 5:13–16 ESV

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

How many of you like fries at Mc Donald's? I think they have the best fries. You have to make sure you get a large drink though because you will become thirsty form all the salt on them. Thats what we are called to be. We should should create a thirst in people to know who this Jesus is. We should be so unique we stand out and people want to know what that difference is.

May we not be like the salt that has lost its saltines and is thrown out.

Light gives direction. We should radiate a proper path for the world to see.

Our influence should be evident.

A light under a bowl would be useless. We have the light but if others do not see it its worthless.

How can I resist Evil?

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

An un submissive or disobedient believer will not see victory.

Like a magnet there are positive polls and negative ones.

Draw close to Jesus and he will to you. disobey and be against his will he will be further away.

We can take offence with the full armor of God.

Ephesians 6:13–18 ESV

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. before a roman solider put on his armor he would put a belt around his waist.

Belt of truth is the Gospel. A soldiers belt let ease of movement. Truth gives freedom to us.

Breastplate of righteousness is the satisfaction righteousness of Christ practiced in a believers life.

This breastplate protected his chest from attacks. righteous living protects a believers heart.

The shield of a roman solider made of wood was about 2.5’ wide and 4’ long. it was linned with linen and leather to absorb fiery arrows.

Our faith can extinguish the fiery arrows the devil throws at us.

A helmet and sword were the last items a solider would put on.

The helmet was hot and uncomfortable. They would only put this on if there was impeding danger.

The helmet of salvation protects present attacks and future attacks form the devil.

The sword of a roman solider was his only offensive weapon.

The preached word of God is our sword. Our offensive weapon.

Jesus did this 3 times when tempted by the devil.

The last two weapons imply praying and being alert.
