The Walls Came Tumbling Down

The Walls Came Tumbling Down
Walls are normally constructed to hold something up, or to keep something from coming in or getting out. There are all kinds of Walls; there are Physical walls, like the walls that we are all behind right now. Some of us are safe and secure, behind the walls of our house and some are behind the wall of other structures or locations. But now matter what, unless you are outside, you are behind a physical wall.
There are mental walls, walls that won’t let anyone in or even let you out. That is, if you try to do it on your own.
Now when you are behind a physical wall, unless you are in prison, or some type of custody, all you have to do it walk to the door and go out.
Today we are going to talk about a physical wall in order to get you to see, any spiritual walls in your life.
We will come from the book of Joshua, after spending 40 years in the wilderness for not trusting or listening to God, a new generation of men and women were ready, they had now crossed the Jordan river and entered the land of the Canaanites.
Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
2 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
God may have given an unusual request, one that most people would say, “I’m not going to do that, it makes no sense.” But that would be called lack of faith.
When it comes to Walls in your life, walls that keep you trapped in or walls that keep you out what are you willing to do?
All of us have walls in our life, these are the test in life, rather it be relationship issues, financial issues, drug, alcohol issues, issues on the job or even off the job. We all have walls, which we have to knock down, we just don’t want to get over them or knock them down, because these walls will still exist. We want these walls destroyed.
In the instance of Joshua, and the people of Israel, they listen to God, When Joshua called to the people of Israel to follow out the commands of God, this time they listened and trust in God. No matter how absurd it seemed.
We must remember that God commanded that they that walk around the city, once with all the armed men for six days. Which they did.
Then he commanded that one the seventh day that they march around the city seven times. BTW, in case you didn’t know, seven in the bible means completion.
8“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Seven is completion
So now back to Joshua, on the seventh day they march around the city seven times. And on the seventh time around, God had given them another instruction and that was that when the trumpets were sounded, that the ARMY give out a mighty shout.
This was an Army and they were used to fighting with their weapons knives and swords in attempts to conquer an army, so this command really had to be absurd to them.
But this time with their faith in God they did as he commanded
20 When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.
Notice the walls collapsed and they took the city. They conquered the Kings and the City with Trumpet and shouts.
By listening to the Word of God.
What about your walls? What about our Walls? Have you ever wonder why God is sometimes silent, when it comes to your walls, the barriers that keep you from getting closer to Him. It’s because He needs us to listen to Him and to have Faith in Him and His Word.
When we are in distress, God’s way may not seem to be the way to go, BUT in actuality it is the only way to go.
When we do it our way, it puts us in the wilderness and that my friends is a scary place to be.
If we listen to God instead of disobeying and not believing in His word, we to can knock down our walls with the impossible. Because ANY is Possible with God.
But before we end this study tonight, we have to remember that Israel had another command, after the wall came down.
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
a. When you knock down your wall of distrust, destroy anything that will take you back to that lust.
b. When you knock down that wall of distrust, destroy anything that will keep you from trusting
c. When you knock down the wall of lies, destroy anything that will take you back to lies
d. When you knock down your wall of financial issues, destroy anything that can take you back to those issues.
e. When you knock down the wall to relationship issues, destroy anything that will keep you from having healthy relationships
f. Knock down the walls to addictions, and destroy anything that will start to build the wall back up against you.
How do you destroy the things behind your wall?
WITH THE WORD OF GOD!!!!
26 And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
27 So the Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
