Spectacular Sins

Even within languages you get varieties. Wursher.

Why? Wouldn’t the gospel go out easier? Sometimes our idea of God’s sovereignty is limited.

Here in The Story of the Tower of Babel we have a spectacular sin. And yet we also see the sovereignty of God…we see the gospel of Christ.

1. God is sovereign over creation.

Creation/Flood Sky/Water

2. God is sovereign over history.

Adam and Eve/ Fall/ The Gospel in 315/ Cain and Abel/ Noah and family.

It is purposeful and moving in one direction—Where every knee will bow an every tongue confess Jesus as Lord.

3. God is sovereign over the nations.

10-11 not in chronological order. 11 is how we get to 10. 10 sets us up for Abraham.

God is restraining evil by using different languages.

God rules the nations, even though they do not acknowledge or worship Him.

Not many names and varieties.

Only through God's revelation of himself to Israel would the world of nations have access to salvation.

4. God is sovereign over our sins.

Illus: Many cultures only ever experience their own culture. In fact is your come from the outside into their culture they do not view you as being fully human. Over/Under view of humanity.

Abram will become Abraham—the father of nations

Through Abraham the nations will be blessed. The curse will be reversed.

Jesus is the seed of the Woman, the seed of Abraham, the one who reverses the curse. But notice in the great commission he does not say…go make one nation.

Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

—Pentecost we see the Spirit descend and people begin speaking in tongues. What we miss…is that one central message is being proclaimed and heard at the same time...

Jesus saves.

Revelation—Every tribe and nation worshipping around the throne.

BABYLON defeated and destroyed.

God is sovereign over our sins, and when we mess up…we do not thwart His plans.

He can use even our most spectacular sins and use them for his Glory.

The question is will we repent of our sins and see God for who he really is...

Will we listen to Christ who tells all sinners and nations...
