Powerlessness can be one of the scariest states of life, and that’s where Ecclesiastes takes us. We can’t control good or evil; blessings or curses; life or death. “At every turn this chapter will face us with our inability to call the tune and master our affairs. On one level after another we find ourselves pinned down, hunted down, and disorientated” (Derek Kidner). Thankfully, while our posture in this chapter becomes one of a servant, it’s before a Good King, who can and does control all things for His good.
