The Lakeview Legacy
Revelation 2:1-7
Lakeview BC
November 12, 2017
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, devotes two chapters to describing seven churches.
It is a most important and defining work.
The first church discussed was the church at Ephesus.
Revelation 2:1-4 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.
2 I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.3
I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.4
But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first.
If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.6
Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.7
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’
My vision for any church would be to return to our roots, the church of the first century.
After the Jewish Feast of Pentecost, an explosion occurred in Jerusalem that soon engulfed a region, country, and the world: Christianity.
The message could not be stopped by governments or religions.
Consistently we read of the progress of the church in terms like,
Acts 2:47 “And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
The immediate response of the new believers, filled with the Holy Spirit can be seen in Acts 4:4:
Acts 4:4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
The progression is simple:
· They hear the Word
· They believe the Word
· People are added to the Kingdom.
Just a short time later, we read this:
Acts 6:7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
· The Word of God increased – the Gospel is proclaimed openly
· The number of disciples multiplied
Simple
The Gospel was so widespread that persecution began.
Those gathered in the church at Jerusalem were scattered because of persecution.
They fled to other parts of the Roman empire.
What did they do when they settled in to their new homes?
Acts 8:4, 8 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word…so there was much joy in that city.
And then a bit later we find this:
Acts 12:24 But the Word of God increased and multiplied.
The church grew and multiplied because the Word of God grew and multiplied - the Word was preached and taught and it bore fruit.
The Beginning of a Vision
Three and a half years ago, through my personal bible study and prayer time, the Lord began revealing his propose for me.
It was quite simple.
The Church Must Return to its roots.
This became more than a dream, it became a vision that I just couldn’t shake.
In order for the Great Commission to take place in the heart of the church, the Gospel must be proclaimed without hesitation.
We must die to self in order that others may be saved.
The Church Must Return to Its Roots
The early church was filled with members that gave everything to the furtherance of the Gospel.
Over and over again, we see people giving up their worldly dreams, comforts and relationships in order to follow Jesus.
If we, as a church, want to a part of the Kingdom Work in Belton, Texas, we must be willing to follow in the footsteps of the early church.
We must become Kingdom minded.
Nothing should take the place in our lives other than the expansion of the Kingdom.
Expansion means that people are coming to a personal relationship with their savior.
They must “hear” the Gospel to believe.
Once they believe, then the Kingdom expands.
We must be willing draw ever closer to the heart of God.
The Gospel is Closest to the Heart of God
God created man even though he knew they would not love him.
He would call His own people and they committed adultery with other Gods.
Yet still He loved them.
God would send His prophets to His people and they would ignore, disobey and murder them.
Still, God eventually would send His Son, Jesus, into the world in order to take His wrath off of them and place it on Jesus Messiah, and the world would hate Him.
And they would murder the only way to salvation.
The Apostle John was given the privilege to pen the following verses:
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.17
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.18
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
The Gospel is the Key Component in All We Do at LBC
Let me be very clear here.
I do not want anyone to misunderstand what I am going to say.
The Vision that God has given me is simple, very simple.
The Gospel is the Key Component in expanding the Kingdom.
Therefore, The Gospel is to be the Key Component in all we do at Lakeview Baptist Church.
· If our Sunday School classes are not centered on the Gospel, let us change that immediately.
· If our Worship Service is not centered on the Gospel, let us change that immediately.
· If our Sunday Evening Services are not centered on the Gospel, let us change that immediately.
· If our Wednesday Evening Services are not centered on the Gospel, let us change that immediately.
· If any of our activities are just that, activities, then let us change that immediately.
· EVERY activity we have should be centered around the Gospel, otherwise we as a church are missing the proverbial boat.
We have been given the precious seed of the Gospel, the Good News from God.
We are to spread it everywhere.
We, should keep it firmly planted in our minds that everything that we do here at Lakeview BC, we should do to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10: 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
The weight that each of us should carry is this.
One day, every knee shall bow to Jesus Christ.
Every person will declare that Jesus is God and Savior.
Every person within the sound of my voice, this means you.
One day, when time is no more, and sin is vanquished, every person will acknowledge that Jesus is LORD.
You will give an account of yourselves to HIM.
God’s judgement is simple.
“In your life, what did you do with my Son? Did you accept my Son as your Savior?”
At that point, if you never confessed this in this life, you will at the judgement seat of God.
Romans 14:11-12 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Conclusion
Tonight we will look at the direction, the vision of Lakeview Baptist Church, in the “Year of New Beginnings.”
However, Kingdom Work needs to happen right here.
Right now.
1. Do you know Jesus as your savior?
2. Have you made the move to becoming Kingdom minded?
