"THE BIBLE & THE CHRISTIAN LIFE"(2 TIMOTHY 3:14-17)OUTLINE STYLE: DEDUCTIVE DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION:
1. PRE-MESSAGE PRAYER (Facilitated by Worship Team)
2. (VIDEO) "WHY READ THE BIBLE?" (EXPLOREGOD.COM)
3. (SLIDE 1) AN INCLUSIVE PLAN WITH INDEPENDENT EXCLUSIVITY
a) In Canada 2017, there's this idea of cultural inclusivity.
i) We live a life of “I think...” and “I feel...” therefore, I'm right.
Ø And yet, there's nothing more exclusive, then each individual being right, in their own eyes. (The Bible might reference this!)
o The Middle East: The Orthodox Jew & The Devout Muslim
· Someone has to have the answers! Someone has to have the truth!
ii) It's easier to ignore all that than dig into the 'why', searching for truth!
Ø More and more, this position is found in our churches as well.
o Perhaps, more and more Christians are neglecting the Bible?
o The Bible offers the opposite; an exclusive plan with absolute inclusivity!
4. (SLIDE 2) SERIES RECAP & MESSAGE INTRO

b) (SLIDE 3) "The Bible & The Christian Life"
i) Truly following what the Bible teaches ultimately leads us to Jesus, then completed disrupts our polite "I think..." and "I feel..." life.
Ø Sermon Aids by Rev. David Dobson, Retired Pastor & Elder, Église Baptiste Évangélique d'Ahuntsic, Montreal, QC
TEACHING:
5. (SLIDE 4) 2 TIMOTHY 3:14-17
Ø Provides the life-plan for the Christian, from the new Believer to the seasoned Disciple. (We'll see that the Bible is foundational.)
6. (SLIDE 5) ONE CENTRAL MESSAGE (3:14-15):
a) The Bible points to Jesus (and salvation).
b) We Learn & Believe:
i) Timothy learned about Jesus Christ in his childhood, through the “sacred writings” (the Law and Prophets of the O.T.).
ii) (SLIDE 6) In 2 Timothy 1:5, we read that his grandmother, Lois and his mother, Eunice were the ones who taught him through Scripture.
iii) (SLIDE 7) The Bible continues to point people to Jesus! (Central Message)
Ø “Sacred writings” that still bring people to believe. (Islam & Isa)
7. (SLIDE 8) ONE GUIDING PURPOSE (3:16-17):
a) The Bible offers the answers (to every question).
b) It Is God-Breathed: (Opneustos)
i) It is inspired by God, therefore it holds the answers for...
Ø ...our teaching. (Through it we learn God's truth!)
Ø ...our reproof. (It tells is where we have deviated from the path!)
Ø ...our correction. (It tells us how to get back on the path!)
Ø ...our training in righteousness. (It tells us how to live a holy life!)
ii) (SLIDE 9) To become complete & equipped, the Bible's the answer.
Ø (SLIDE 10) Leading to good works, but for what purpose?
o Is it really all about being able to do good works?
· It all comes back to Jesus!
² This is where "I think..." and "I feel..." falls apart.
APPLICATION:
8. (SLIDE 11) AN EXCLUSIVE PLAN WITH ABSOLUTE INCLUSIVITY
a) Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (Jn. 14:6)
i) The Bible points to a very exclusive plan for life and salvation, which really messes with our polite Canadian worldview!
b) (SLIDE 12) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (Jn. 3:16)
i) Thankfully, the Bible also points to a plan that has absolute inclusivity.
CONCLUSION:
9. (SLIDE 13) INVITATION (Worship In Response)
Ø POST-MESSAGE PRAYER (Pray for OFFERING & Close Message)
