The Why
The Why
Most of us are familiar with the story of The Battle of Jericho in the book of Joshua, but humor me for a moment as I give you some insight to a key player here.
We first learn of Rahab in .
When Joshua sent in 2 spies to stake out the city, they entered the house of Rahab the prostitute - a woman who had incurred a reputation, at whose house they knew they needed no invitation to stay there.
the prostitute and stayed there.
What would cause a woman
When the King of Jericho heard of this he immediately sent a message to Rahab to turn over the spies. But she covered for them. She hid them on her roof and diverted the trail of the kings guards.
Then she asked for her & her family to be spared.
Why? Why suddenly takes such risks?
What would cause a woman like this (a woman everyone knew of & felt they had access to) to risk the wrath of the King,
To turn from the comfort of a lifestyle she knew, and the fleeting affections of so many,
to walk away from this life and home she had known so well,
to ask to join up with a people she had nothing in common with.
What drew them together besides a single red cord....
Vs. 8-14 She has heard of the Lord’s renown .... swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to MY FAMILY 6:17,22,23 (PIC)
Why?
Such faith because of what she heard about the victories of the people of God. The people that took her in and saw her life change so much that she married an Israelite named Salmon & they bore a son named Boaz who married Ruth who became the grandmother of Jesus.
What if we stood up for what we professed today, what if we became the bearers of testimonies that drew the ones that felt like outsiders in. What if we, as the church, rose to our rightful place, taking in these young women becasue the Red Cord truly signified the redemptive renown of our God!
