If you have your Bibles would you turn them to
Were going to be talking about an uncomfortable subject tonight but it was one that never was answered when I was a young man, so tonight I want to share with you the answer to this tough question as I have learned it in the Bible. This is going to be uncomfortable, some of you might not care to hear it but I can assure you one day you will be glad you did. Were going to talk about death tonight. Now I want you to know that there is one question that used to plague my mind. I was wild as a young man ran with some real bad people when I was about your age… and I used to believe I was invincible, but one night I received a call from my best friends mom. His name was Chris and we played baseball together he was like my brother they used to call us the bash brothers...... (explain)
But on that night when i was 17 years old I answered my phone and it was Chris’ mom and she never called me, I answered and heard her sobbing “Chris is gone” she said. My world stopped, I didnt know what to think, what to say, or what to believe. That was when I began to wonder what would happen to me the minute that I stopped breathing. Now i want this to be a time tonight where your questions are answered and the Bible very clealry tells us about what takes place when you or I or someone we love passes away.
Now I’m sure some of you will feel uncomfortable tonight I’m sorry for that but I want to settle some things with you and I pray that you will let me. Pften times when people are asked about a subject like death they will change the subject or beat around the bush because we dont wanna think about it, or deal with it. I didn’t want to preach this tonight but it is what the Lord put in my heart so I am gonna listen.
Everybody knows that there is coming a day that we are all going to die… common sense tells us we are going to die.
AND IF YOUR NOT READY TO DIE THEN YOU ARE NOT READY TO LIVE
No man is ready for life until he is no longer afraid of death.
The title of this message is 5 minutes after death
The most amazing 5 minutes you will ever spend is the first five minutes after you die.
Jesus is the Master Teacher and Jesus told a story that I am going to read to you out of the Word of God and this story deals with the 3 massive issues that all of us must face. Those 3 issues
LIFE
DEATH
ETERNITY
GO with me to verse 19
Luke 16:19–31 HCSB
“There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day. But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was left at his gate. He longed to be filled with what fell from the rich man’s table, but instead the dogs would come and lick his sores. One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side. ‘Father Abraham!’ he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!’ “ ‘Son,’ Abraham said, ‘remember that during your life you received your good things, just as Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’ “ ‘Father,’ he said, ‘then I beg you to send him to my father’s house— because I have five brothers—to warn them, so they won’t also come to this place of torment.’ “But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’ “ ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said. ‘But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ “But he told him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.’ ”
Now what we have here is the Lord Jesus Christ telling us of a real account that happened in the lives and deaths of two men. Now some of you may say how could Jesus tell a story like this no man can see what happens when these two dudes died? Youre right NO MAN COULD UNLESS HE WAS MORE THAN JUST A MAN.
JESUS CHRIST IS GOD IN THE FLESH
IF YOU DONT BELIEVE THAT LET ME START OFF BY SAYING YOUR NOT A CHRISTIAN.
Some people say this is just a story, or what the Bible calls a parable but Jesus didnt call it a parable, and as a matter of fact if it was a parable it is the only parable in which Jesus used anybody’s name. He talks about a man named Lazarus and a Rich man.
What Jesus does is he talks about 2 different men who experienced two very different realities.
First I want you to see the difference in their life, what your gonna see is that these two guys are very different. One was a rich man, One was a poor man. One had more stuff than anybody could ask for the other had money enough to merely exist.
Why is it that some are born with such strong bodies and others are born with frail bodies? Why is it that some people are born with special ability and some think that they are not. Why is it that some have great minds and are really smart then you have someone like me who worked hard in school to get my D’s. Maybe the rich man was born with a special mind that helped him make his money, and the beggar was not born that way...
Throughout life there will be people who have things and those who dont have things.
(MAMMA WHY ARE WE POOR).....
Here was this man JEsus mentions here who had so much everyday for the rich man was a feast.
Luke 16:19 ESV
“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.
He had gournmet food, there was another man right outside his gate who is covered with sores, and flies, on those sores and dogs are licking those sores.
So One man was banking the other man was a beggar
Here is this man behind his gates, he is there in his palace. He is there with his servants and outside there is this beggar.
I can imagine
