Introduction:
Two Schools for looking at sexuality:
1: Sex is casual - The World.
2: Sex is special - The Christian
Christians are not to live their lives according to the world’s principles:
Just because something is legal does not make it right.
Just because you are tempted to do something does not make it good.
Just because it seems natural to do something does not make it ok.
Many legal things are against God’s Law
Adultery, coveting, idolatry, murder, fornication - all 10 Commandments - all legal
Matter of government - Governed by flesh or governed by the Holy Spirit.
If A christian sins alone in the woods and no-ones around to see it, does it still count as a sin?
Turn issue to sexuality:
The world says: “Satisfy your sexual appetite any way you want.”
Jesus says: “Sexual appetites can only and must only be satisfied in a marriage between a man and woman.
What’s the big deal about fornication?
2 Things:
Its not the intended use for the
Its not the body’s intended function.
The Body is not for Fornication - say it 7 times.
This item is not intended for use as a ..........
Failure to use this product in its intended manner will constitute abuse and void the warranty....
Sex outside of God’s boundaries constitues abuse and brings with it terrible consequences.
Medical dangers of a promiscuous lifestyle:
Unwanted pregnancies - 46 Million babies murdered in last 20 years.
Broken homes - 40% all new babies are not born into families - which means that they have a 80% greater chance of becoming a criminal statistic.
65 million people have an STD - with 19 million new cases every year.
150 000 woman become sterile as a result of STD a year.
90% of all divorces happen in marriages where one or both partners incurred wounds from a previous promiscuous lifestyle.
Homosexual lifestyle:
4000% increate in anal cancer.
AIDS 5th leading cause of death.
Life expectancy lowered by 20-30 years.
Sex is never casual
Sex constitues a covenant union.
A union so powerful that only it has the power to create life.
It is a union of body, minds and spirit - and binds a part of you to that person for the rest of your life, or until you are delivered by repentance and grace.
Christians are to be light in the darkness.
Living in a fallen world means battles are going to have to be fought.
Doing all we can to avoid temptation is not cowardice but wisdom.
This morality is not born born out of moral superiority - its born out of knowledge:
Knowledge that we are bought as a price and our bodies have become the temple of the holy spirit.
1 cor 6
Sexual Purity is maintained through the fruit of self control
Scene in Liar liar with hand
Self control is not like that.
Biblical self control begins with a recognition:
That is: Recognising the difference between what is permissible and what is beneficial.
It is permissible for me to have lots of sugar (no law against it) but it is not beneficial.
Something may not be immediately evil but could lead cause problems later.
It is permissible that a young couple can watch a movie alone under the cover on a cold night - but that NOT beneficial - why? Cause that is putting yourself in a position of temptation.
Some things may be permissible - but I must not let anything control me - “I must not be mastered by anything” should be the christian attitude.
